Background: Phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation has been a popular means for the treatment of high ametropia. Measurements of ciliary sulcus diameter is important for pIOL size determining. But till now, no perfect system can directly measure it. The present study was to evaluate the accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility of direct sulcus diameter measurements obtained by a full-scale 50-megahertz (MHz) ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
Methods: A fresh cadaver human eye with a scale marker inserted through the posterior chamber plane from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock meridian and 30 randomly selected eyes from 30 normal subjects were scanned by full-scale 50-MHz UBM in horizontal meridional scan plane. The distance between the scales and the whole length of the marker inside the cadaver eye were measured by the same observer using the "built-in" measurement tools and the indicating error of instrument was calculated. Reproducibility of the measurement was evaluated in 30 eyes by 2 operators using Blander and Altman plot test. Repeatability was evaluated from 10 successive eyes randomly selected from the 30 eyes by one operator.
Results: On a scale of 1 mm, the greatest indicating error was 40 microm; the mean largest indicating error of 1 mm scale from the 10 images was (26 +/- 14) microm; on a scale of 11 mm, the greatest indicating error was 70 microm; the error rate was 0.64%. The mean length of the needle inside the eye of the 10 images was 11.05 mm, with the mean indicating error of 47 microm, the average error rate was 0.43%. For ciliary sulcus diameter measurements in vivo, the coefficient of variation was 0.38%; the coefficients of repeatability for intra-observer and inter-observer measurements were 1.99% and 2.55%, respectively. The limits of agreement for intra-observer and inter-observer measurement were -0.41 mm to 0.48 mm and -0.59 mm to 0.58 mm, respectively.
Conclusion: The full-scale 50-MHz UBM can be a high accuracy and good repeatability means for direct measuring the ciliary sulcus diameter and useful for size determining of posterior chamber pIOL.

Purpose: To explore the influence of alveolar process expansion, guided bone regeneration (GBR) and bone grafting for simultaneous dental implantation therapy on bone resorption volume, retention and masticatory function in patients with severe deficiency of alveolar bone horizontal width.
Methods: Eighty patients with severely insufficient alveolar bone width who received dental implantation therapy in Hangzhou Stomatology Hospital were selected from January 2021 to January 2023. Totally 40 patients (55 teeth) who received alveolar process expansion combined with GBR bone grafting were included in the experimental group, while 40 patients (51 teeth) with traditional alveolar bone splitting were enrolled as the control group.

Purpose: To introduce the iris-ciliary angle area (ICAA) as a novel quantitative parameter for enhancing accuracy in implantable Collamer lens (ICL) sizing and postoperative vault prediction, addressing limitations of traditional methods based on white-to-white (WTW) and anterior chamber depth (ACD), particularly in high myopia cases.
Methods: In this retrospective study of 319 eyes, sulcus-to-sulcus (STS), ICAA, and other ocular parameters were analyzed using multivariate linear regression models to assess their influence on ICL diameter and vault. Clinical validation was conducted to compare the predictive accuracy of the proposed model with conventional sizing methods.
Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between anterior chamber biometric parameters (angle-to-angle diameter [ATA] and anterior chamber width [ACW]) and the sulcus-to-sulcus diameter (STS) in myopic patients with varying axial length (AL).
Methods: A 50-MHz ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) device measured STS at the 0° and 90° meridians in the right eyes of 77 Chinese patients with high myopia and an anterior chamber depth greater than 2.80 mm.

As part of a microsurgical anatomy study of the recurrent artery of Heubner (RAH), we identified three rare vascular variants in a 45-year-old female cadaver: the right middle accessory cerebral artery (MACA), bihemispheric anterior cerebral artery (Bihem-ACA), and median artery of the corpus callosum (MACC). These anomalies were documented through meticulous dissection and detailed morphometric analysis, underscoring the value of cadaveric studies in elucidating complex cerebral vascular anatomy. The specimen was obtained within 24 hours postmortem.

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between two-dimensional orifice shape measurements (major diameter, minor diameter, perimeter, area, roundness, form factor, and aspect ratio) and dentin thickness in the mesial and distal aspects of the distal root canals of mandibular first molars as well as developmental sulcus depth, using micro-CT imaging. A total of 100 distal roots of mandibular first molars showing Vertucci type I configuration was selected and scanned with micro-CT. The 2D micro-CT analysis of area, perimeter, major diameter, minor diameter, roundness, form factor and aspect ratio of the canal orifice was performed.
