Article Abstract

We propose a new method of realizing ring resonators based on hybrid photonic crystal and conventional waveguide structures. The proposed ring resonator configuration is advantageous compared with general ring resonator structures for its controllability of the quality (Q) factor, free spectral range (FSR), and full width at half maximum (FWHM) over a wide range. We show ring resonator structures based on a single mode waveguide with core and clad refractive indices of 1.5 and 1.465, respectively. A 35mum x 50mum ring resonator has a free spectral range (FSR) of 14.1nm and a quality (Q) factor of 595 with high optical efficiency (92.7%). By decreasing the size of the ring resonator to 35mum x 35mum, the FSR is increased to 19.8nm. Modifying the splitting ratio of the beam splitters permits the Q factor to be increased to 1600.

The human kidneys play a pivotal role in regulating blood pressure, water, and salt homeostasis, but assessment of renal function typically requires invasive methods. Deuterium metabolic imaging (DMI) is a novel, noninvasive technique for mapping tissue-specific uptake and metabolism of deuterium-labeled tracers. This study evaluates the feasibility of renal DMI at 7-Tesla (7T) to track deuterium-labeled tracers with high spatial and temporal resolution, aiming to establish a foundation for potential clinical applications in the noninvasive investigation of renal physiology and pathophysiology.

Absorption spectra of neopentyl alcohol and pinacolyl alcohol are recorded in the gas phase at room temperature and equilibrium conditions. A combination of conventional Fourier transform spectroscopy and cavity ringdown spectroscopy is used to cover the spectral OH-stretching regions, Δv=1-5. The conformer distributions of the alcohols are determined from the recorded spectra combined with transition intensities calculated with a reduced dimensional local mode model.
