Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SC-CO(2)) of oil from desilked silkworm pupae was performed. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to optimize the parameters of SC-CO(2) extraction. The effects of independent variables, including pressure, temperature, CO(2) flow rate, and extraction time, on the yield of oil were investigated. The statistical analysis showed that the pressure, extraction time, and the quadratics of pressure, extraction time, and CO(2) flow rate, as well as the interactions between pressure and temperature, and temperature and flow rate, showed significant effects on oil yield. The optimal extraction condition for oil yield within the experimental range of the variables researched was at 324.5 bar, 39.6 degrees C, 131.2 min, and 19.3 L/h. At this condition, the yield of oil was predicted to be 29.73%. The obtained silkworm pupal oil contained more than 68% total unsaturated fatty acids, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) accounted for 27.99% in the total oil.

Electrochemical (EC) grooving minimises tool wear and residual stress when machining hard-to-cut tube materials. This study examines how the number of passes and tool feed direction affect material removal rate (MRR) and removed area (RA) in Stellite 21 tubes. Two feed strategies were tested: Unidirectional Electrolyte Flow (UEF), where the tool moves entirely opposite to the electrolyte flow; and Hybrid Electrolyte Flow (HEF), where the tool first moves against and then with the flow direction.

Introduction: Current commercial cerebral oximeters only monitor the frontal lobes, however, some cerebrovascular territories may experience ischemia while others remain well perfused. This pilot study used a novel, high-density, dual-wavelength, time-resolved functional cerebral oximeter (Kernel Flow) with 2000 channels to assess the regional differences of cerebral oxygenation (StO2) in response to hypotension across different vascular territories during shoulder surgery in the beach chair position.
Methods: Twenty-seven adult patients were monitored, recording blood pressure, heart rate, regional cerebral oxygen saturation, and other vital parameters.

The environmental impact of Tire and Road Wear Particles (TRWP), arising from tire-road friction, has raised significant concerns. Like microplastics, TRWP contaminate air, water, and soil, with considerable annual emissions and runoff into freshwater ecosystems. Among TRWP compounds, 6PPD-Q, leached from tire particles, shows varying toxicity across species, notably affecting fish and invertebrates.

The effect of shape and size of embolic agents on embolization phenomena has been discussed clinically for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). We numerically discussed the unique embolization behavior of new deformable toroidal microparticles in blood vessels by computational fluid dynamics simulations. We employed an Eulerian-Eulerian (full Eulerian) fluid-structure interaction (FSI) method to analyze the flow and deformation behaviors of a deformable torus in a cylindrical pipe.

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to cause significant global mortality, highlighting the need for improved drug delivery systems. The objective of this paper focuses in describing the formulation, optimization and in vivo assessment of rifampicin encapsulated PLGA microparticles for site-specific inhalation therapy. Microparticles for inhalation were produced by spray drying, and the DoE methodology was applied to reach the most suitable aerodynamic properties (mass median aerodynamics diameter (MMAD) 2.
