The present paper reports the study on visible/near-infrared (Vis/NIR) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy for nondestructive measurement of vitamin C in tangerine (Nanfeng, Jiangxi). In the wavelength range of 350-1800 nm, principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) were used to build mathematic models with respect to pre-processing spectra. The principal components (PCs) and wavelength selection for calibration model were determined based on full cross validation and regression coefficients. The results, based on prediction for 10 unknown samples, are 0.813, 2.112 mg (100 g)(-1) and -0.810 mg (100 g)(-1) for prediction correlation coefficient, root mean square error of prediction, and prediction deviation, respectively. The analysis methods and conclusions of this experiment will provide some reference values for non-destructive measurement of vitamin C and other quality indices in Nanfeng tangerine using Vis/NIR diffuse reflectance spectrometric technique.

Purpose: To analyze stabilization results using various standard and accelerated corneal cross-linking (CXL) protocols in patients younger than 18 years.
Methods: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines. A bibliographic search was carried out based on PubMed and Scopus data, with the last being performed in December 2024.

Background: Vitamin D modulates the immune response in many species, including dogs. To date, research investigating the immunological effects of vitamin D in dogs is limited to in vitro studies.
Objectives: Provide PO calcifediol supplementation to healthy dogs to evaluate its tolerability and assess its effect on leukocyte production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-10.

Background: Rhodococcus equi causes pneumonia in young foals, but disease susceptibility and severity vary. Cortisol and vitamin D modulate immune responses and cytokine production during bacterial infection, and altered concentrations are associated with sepsis in neonatal foals. We hypothesised an age and disease effect on circulating steroid hormone concentrations in foals, and that differences in cytokines and steroid hormone concentrations would predict disease severity in pneumonic foals.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) assays are not standardized and therefore PTH results are interpreted using manufacturer-provided assay-specific reference intervals. Assay-specific PTH reference intervals, however, do not account for between-assay differences and lead to discordance in the diagnosis of normocalcaemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NCPHPT). PTH increases with age independent of vitamin D, renal function, phosphate and ionized calcium.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (280-320 nm) has been recognized as a carcinogen since 1928, leading to sun exposure minimization. However, epidemiological studies suggest that sun exposure correlates with increased life expectancy and reduced incidence of cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers such as colon and endometrial cancer. UVB exposure also influences liver metabolism, protects against hepatocellular lipotoxicity, and affects metabolic health.
