Objective: To study the effects of grape seed proanthocyanidins extracts(GSPE) and its mechanism on early renal lesions of diabetic rats.
Methods: Diabetic rats induced by alloxan were given GSPE intragastrically for 6 weeks, then the antioxidative indexes and NO content, NOS activity in kidney and serum were measured, and the renal function indexes were tested as well.
Results: Compared with the diabetic group, the urinary protein/24h, levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN)and serum creatinine(SCr), creatinine clearance rate(CCr) and the ratio of kidney weight/body weight were decreased, the SOD activity in kidney was raised while MDA content was fall in the GSPE group(high dose), and the differences were all significant. The NO content in the kidney and NOS activity in kidney and serum decreased in the GSPE (low dose)group, and there was significant difference when compared with diabetic group( P <0.05) .
Conclusion: GSPE has the effect in protecting kidney of diabetic rats, the mechanism might be related with its action in increasing the renal antioxidative ability, decreasing the content of NO and the activity of NOS in kidney and serum.

Background: We investigated circulating protein profiles and molecular pathways among various chronic kidney disease (CKD) etiologies to study its underlying molecular heterogeneity.
Methods: We conducted a proteomic biomarker analysis in the DAPA-CKD trial recruiting adults with and without type 2 diabetes with an eGFR of 25 to 75 mL/min/1.73m2 and a UACR of 200 to 5000 mg/g.

In mammals, cholesterol accumulation in tissues often results in health damage, such as oxidative stress. In contrast, the adverse effects of cholesterol accumulation on the physiological health of fish remain largely unexplored. The present study investigated the impacts of cholesterol accumulation on oxidative stress and the potential mechanisms involved in Nile tilapia ().

Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the digestive tract. The FOLFOX regimen (oxaliplatin + calcium folinate + 5-fluorouracil) serves as the primary treatment for advanced CRC clinically, yet its application is significantly limited by substantial toxic side effects. Erianin, a natural compound from Chinese medicine Lindl, demonstrates significant potential in both tumor growth inhibition and chemotherapy toxicity reduction.

This systematic review evaluates the comparative effectiveness of bariatric surgery versus medical therapy in managing obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A decade-long literature search from January 2014 to January 2024 identified 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving diverse populations, interventions, and outcomes. The analysis demonstrates that bariatric procedures, such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), sleeve gastrectomy (SG), and metabolic surgery, consistently outperform medical interventions, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors, and intensive lifestyle modifications, in achieving superior glycemic control, weight reduction, and metabolic improvement.

The hypertrophied column of Bertin (HCB) is a benign anatomical variant of the renal cortex that may mimic a neoplastic mass, particularly on ultrasound, potentially leading to unnecessary diagnostic or surgical interventions. We report the case of a nine-year-old girl in whom a renal lesion was incidentally discovered during follow-up imaging for a post-traumatic subcapsular hematoma. Renal ultrasound revealed an isoechoic mass in the mid-portion of the left kidney, extending into the renal sinus.
