The present study examined the modulating effects of an intrahippocampal injection of interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA expression 0.5, 2, 4, and 6 h following contextual fear conditioning, a task known to increase BDNF mRNA, in rats. Contextual fear conditioning produced a time-dependent increase in BDNF mRNA that varied by region of hippocampus. IL-1beta blocked or reduced these increases in BDNF mRNA in the CA1, CA2, and dentate gyrus regions of the hippocampus, but had no effect in cortical regions. These data support the idea that IL-1beta-produced memory deficits may be mediated via BDNF mRNA reductions in hippocampus.

Oxidative stress leads to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Huntington's diseases. Therefore, we isolated Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus strains from kimchi and investigated the neuroprotective effects of the heat-killed lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains against oxidative stress. All LAB strains demonstrated suitable probiotic characteristics.

Empathy plays a crucial role in the maintenance of interpersonal relationships among mammals. Remarkably, engaging in light-intensity exercise has been identified as a facilitator of empathic behavior, a phenomenon associated with the upregulation of miR-486a-3p in the insular cortex. However, it remains to cover the contribution of miR-486a-3p and the mechanisms of changing levels of that in the insular cortex with light-intensity exercise.

Background: Primary focal hyperhidrosis (PFH) is a neurological dermatological disorder characterized by localized, excessive sweating. Current treatments have limitations, and postoperative compensatory hyperhidrosis remains a concern.
