Nanoplastics (NPs) affect soil carbon (C) turnover, but their influence on this process through modifications in soil aggregate stability under freeze-thaw cycles remains unclear. In this study rare earth oxides (REOs) and C isotope (C) labeling, combined with Soil Microstructure Scanning Computed Tomography (SMS-CT) and data modeling, were used to examine the relationship between soil aggregate turnover and C turnover under NPs. Compared with the control group, the total phase porosity and surface area of soil treated with NPs increased by 11.

Although microplastics (MPs) toxicity to soil microorganisms has been preliminarily explored, the underlying reasons affecting the direction of microbial community succession are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the impacts of MPs infer community assembly mechanisms through phylogenetic bin-based null model analysis, network models, and protein function prediction in five typical Northeast China five typical soils. The results show that microbial communities in soils with high organic matter exhibit a stronger response to MPs, with enhanced protein functionality, network regulation, and assembly processes.

Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are immunogenic self-adjuvanting vesicles produced by Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. While the effects of OMVs on different antigens immune stimulation are not clear. In this study, we constructed recombinant Yersinia pseudotuberculosis ΔlpxL strain, with pBlue-PcrV and pBlue-OprF/I, and then purified ΔlpxL rOMVPcrV (rOMVyp2P)and ΔlpxL rOMVOprF/I (rOMVyp2F) and analyzed its effect on immune response and protection against Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 infection.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the long-term outcomes between breast-conserving surgery plus radiotherapy (BCS + RT) and mastectomy in early breast cancer patients who received neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST).
  • Data from nearly 14,000 patients showed that BCS + RT significantly improved breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS) compared to mastectomy.
  • The research developed a machine learning model called the random survival forest (RSF), which outperformed other predictive models, and a web-based tool for clinicians to help personalize treatment strategies.

The rapid growth of organic solid waste has recently exacerbated environmental pollution problems, and its improper treatment has led to the loss of a large number of biomass resources. Here, we expound the advantages of microbial agents composting compared with conventional organic solid waste treatment technology, and review the important role of microbial agents composting in organic solid waste composting from the aspects of screening and identification, optimization of conditions, mechanism of action, combination with other technologies and ultra-high-temperature and ultra-low-temperature microbial composting. We discuss the value of microorganisms with different growth conditions in organic solid waste composting, and put forward a seasonal multi-temperature composite microbial composting technology.

Background: The role of age in metastatic disease, including breast cancer, remains obscure. This study was conducted to determine the role of age in patients with metastatic breast cancer.

Methods: Breast cancer patients diagnosed with distant metastases between 2010 and 2019 were retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.
