Lens water transport generates a hydrostatic pressure gradient that is regulated by a dual-feedback system that utilizes the mechanosensitive transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) channels, TRPV1 and TRPV4, to sense changes in mechanical tension and extracellular osmolarity.
