While host plants and endosymbionts have been implicated in influencing dietary breadth in polyphagous herbivores, the underlying mechanism remains vague. In this study, we focused on the food nutrition and nutrition provision of endosymbionts to elucidate the determination of dietary breadth in a polyphagous aphid Aphis gossypii. Our findings demonstrated that high sugar and riboflavin presence in food decreased aphid fitness, while Arsenophonus infections improved aphid performance.

Benzophenone (BPs) and 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor are used as ultraviolet (UV) filters to protect the skin and hair in personal care products. The discharging of the three chemicals may endanger the receiving water ecosystem. In the present study, the mutagenicity of BP-6, BP-8, and 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor was tested using the Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation test (Ames test) in the system with and without rat liver microsomal preparations (S9).

Article Synopsis
  • Many pollutants settle at the riverbed, potentially leading to biological toxicity, which can be assessed using the Daphnia magna-elutriate toxicity bioassay.
  • The study introduces an optimized method using immobilized sediments to provide more accurate toxicity measurements by preventing the loss of hydrophobic pollutants, unlike traditional elutriation.
  • Results show that the immobilized sediment approach yielded lower median lethal concentration values for copper and diuron, indicating a significant improvement in assessing sediment toxicity, particularly during evaluations of sediments before and after dredging in polluted rivers.

We use a standard model for the low-temperature electron-phonon interaction in metals to calculate the rate of thermal energy transfer between electrons and acoustic phonons in suspended metallic nanoshells. The electrons are treated as three-dimensional and noninteracting, whereas the vibrational modes are that of an thin cylindrical elastic shell of radius R with a free surface and thickness h. Disorder is neglected.

Objective To elucidate the important functions of microRNAs (miRNAs) in regulating synaptic assembly and function, we performed a computational analysis for the genetic loci required for the synaptic structure and function and their corresponding miRNAs in C. elegans. Methods Total 198 genetic loci required for the synaptic structure and function were selected.

Objective: To observe the effect of Astragalus-Angelica Mixture (AAM) on osteopontin (OPN) expression in rats with chronic nephrosclerosis.

Methods: Chronic nephrosclerosis model rats induced by repeated intraperitoneal injection of puromycin were randomly divided into the model group, AAM group and Irbesartan (an antagonist of angiotensin) group. The experimental course lasted 12 weeks.
