Expectations can impact antidepressant treatment and psychedelic therapy, often enhance placebo effects and influence outcomes. However, research in this context is lacking. Our study explored the expectations of participants with major depressive disorder (MDD) before microdosing lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in an open-label trial.

Activity Type Effects Signal Quality in Electrocardiogram Devices.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) devices are commonly used to monitor heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV), but their signal quality under non-upright or torso-dominant activities may suffer due to motion artifact and interference from surrounding musculature. We compared ECG signal quality during treadmill walking, circuit training, and an obstacle course using three chest-worn commercial devices (Polar H10, Equivital EQ-02, and Zephyr BioHarness 3.0) and a multi-lead ECG monitor (BIOPAC).

Interrupted Inferior Caval Vein in the Era of High Prenatal Detection Highlighting Postnatal Computed Tomographic Findings in Those Without Complex Cardiac Malformations.

We reviewed those diagnosed pre- and postnatally with interrupted inferior caval vein (IICV), emphasizing the computed tomographic (CT) findings in those without complex cardiac malformations. We identified cases of IIVC diagnosed between January 2013 and December 2024. We defined non-complex cardiac malformations as secundum atrial communications with or without catheter intervention or surgery, mild semilunar valve stenosis, or a patent ductus arteriosus with or without catheter intervention or surgery.

Fontan-Associated Liver Disease: A Single-Center's Experience With Transvenous Hepatic Biopsy and Shear-Wave Elastography.

To report our center's experience with hepatic fibrosis scores derived from transvenous hepatic biopsy and ultrasound shear-wave elastography (SWE) values in post-Fontan patients. We identified patients who underwent a lateral tunnel Fontan (LTF) or an extracardiac Fontan (ECF) Fontan between 1990 and 2020. We further identified those who underwent transvenous hepatic biopsy between February 2013 and February 2025 and SWE between January 2017 and February 2025.

Increasing Representation of Black Stroke Survivors in Aphasia Research: A Community Outreach Pilot.

Purpose: Although Black Americans are more likely to have strokes and more severe poststroke disability than White Americans, Black stroke survivors with aphasia are substantially underrepresented in aphasia clinical trials, which means that research findings may not generalize to the entire U.S. population.

Methodological standards for body composition-an expert-endorsed guide for research and clinical applications: levels, models, and terminology.

Body composition assessment is widely used in both research and clinical practice, yet confusion over basic concepts and terminology persists, leading to inaccurate assessments, comparisons, and interpretations. To address this concern, an international working group was formed to clarify basic concepts, standardize terminology, and provide guidance on the use and interpretation of body composition assessment. This initial publication addresses methodological standards, focusing on summarizing body composition levels and models, and introducing standardized terms and definitions.

Exploring Practices for Implementing Smoking Cessation in Oncology Settings: A Rapid Systematic Review Update.

IntroductionSmoking cessation among individuals with cancer increases the effectiveness of cancer treatments and reduces the risks of death. However, individuals receiving cancer treatments in Ontario's 14 regional cancer centres are provided advice on the benefits of quitting smoking and referrals to smoking cessation treatments at different rates. This rapid systematic review was conducted, with funding from the Canadian Cancer Society, to update a published systematic review (Young et al, 2023) and to (1) identify implementation strategies and related implementation outcomes used in oncology settings; (2) describe the characteristics of these implementation strategies and implementation outcomes; and (3) determine whether specific implementation strategies are associated with increased smoking cessation efforts, referred to as the 3As (Ask, Advise, and Act) approach to smoking cessation.

Formative Research to Develop DC-SIPS: A Multilevel Intervention to Reduce Sugary Drink Intake and Promote Water Intake Among Black Youth in Washington, DC.

Objective: Develop a multilevel intervention to reduce sugary drink intake and increase water intake among African American children in Washington, DC.

Design: Qualitative interviews and surveys with pediatricians, children, and their parents. Three key phases of intervention development guided the research: (1) pediatrician (n = 6) feedback on the "Decreasing Children's Sugar Intake through Pediatricians and Social Marketing" intervention concept, (2) initial feedback from children (n = 10) and parents (n = 7) on intervention concept, branding and messaging content, and (3) additional feedback from children (n = 7) and parents (n = 6) on the revised branding and messaging content.

Patients with rare diseases often encounter significant challenges, including poor coordination of healthcare services. The UK Rare Disease Framework emphasizes key priorities such as faster diagnoses, greater awareness among healthcare professionals, improved care coordination, and better access to specialist care. This National Health Service (NHS) project, based in the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service (GMS), aimed to improve care coordination for patients with rare genetic diseases in primary care.

Moderate chronic aortic constriction induces modest, sex-specific effects on rat hearts and skeletal muscle.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for ∼50 % of heart failure diagnoses, occurs in older individuals, is more prevalent in females than males, and includes hypertension as contributing factor. We sought to determine whether a long-term, moderate, transverse aortic constriction in male and female rats induces ventricular hypertrophy and preserved ejection fraction, changes in skeletal muscle mass and strength, and sex-specific differences in these outcomes, mimicking HFpEF. Transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery was performed on male and female rats at 4 weeks of age, and rats were sacrificed 40 weeks after surgery, following echocardiography and grip strength measures.

Assessment of Dry Mouth in a Palliative Population: A Comparison Between Patient-Reported Symptoms and Clinical Oral Dryness Scale Measurements.

The severity and impact of dry mouth in patients receiving palliative care is underreported, and assessment methods for this condition are lacking consensus. This study aimed to examine the severity of dry mouth in a palliative population as rated on a visual oral dryness scale and to compare these findings with the actual symptoms experienced by patients, as reported through both a symptom scale measure and a bother questionnaire. 40 participants took part in this cross-sectional study.

The Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction and Frustration Scale: Initial Validity Evidence in Aphasia.

Purpose: Motivation influences clinical decisions and neurocognitive processes central to aphasia rehabilitation, yet clinicians lack evidence-based frameworks to guide the assessment and management of motivation. Self-determination theory is a well-validated psychological framework that proposes that motivation is supported by the satisfaction of three basic psychological needs (BPNs), autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The measurement of these BPNs could improve aphasia treatment outcomes by identifying causes of poor motivation and strategies to enhance motivation.

The Variable Di(mesityl)boroxide Coordination Chemistry of the Lanthanide Metals.

The coordination chemistry of the di(mesityl)boroxide ligand, (OBMes) (Mes = CHMe-2,4,6), with lanthanide elements has been explored to examine its utility in providing complexes stabilized by the electron-deficient alkoxide-like nature of this ligand. Protonolysis reactions between Ln(NR) (R = SiMe) and HOBMes generated the crystalline bimetallic complexes, [(MesBO)Ln(μ-OBMes)], which were characterized by X-ray crystallography for Ln = La, Ce, Nd, and Gd. The metal atoms of the dimers are linked through the oxygen atoms of bridging boroxide ligands and through metal-arene interactions.

A Linear Metallocene of Sc(II) Supported by [CMe(SiMeBu)] Ligands.

Reduction of [CMe(SiMeBu)]ScI with KC generates the first example of a neutral, linear metallocene of scandium analogous to ferrocene, namely [CMe(SiMeBu)]Sc. X-ray diffraction studies, spectroscopic analyses, and DFT calculations are consistent with a Sc(II) complex. [CMe(SiMeBu)]Sc reacts reversibly with N to provide the end-on (N═N) complex {[CMe(SiMeBu)]Sc}(μ-η:η-N) and gives a rare example of a crystallographically characterizable Sc(III) terminal hydroxide, namely [CMe(SiMeBu)]Sc(OH), as a hydrolysis product.

Teletrial implementation in early phase clinical trials: two national workshops.

Teletrials aim to improve equity of access to clinical trials and increase clinical trial activity, especially for people with cancer in regional and rural communities. Three cancer programs, using a collective impact framework, form the Victorian Teletrial Collaborative (VTC) to enhance the uptake of teletrials. The VTC conducted two workshops with a focus on early-phase clinical trials with national stakeholders; the collaborative was able to clarify various perspectives regarding the barriers and enablers to the implementation of the teletrial model for use in early-phase clinical trials.

Four-electron oxidation and one-electron reduction of the bis(terphenylthiolate) U(II) complex, U(SAr) [Ar = CH-2,6-(CH-2,4,6-Pr)].

The utility of the sterically bulky terphenylthiolate ligand, (SAr) in expanding uranium reductive chemistry has been explored. Reduction of U(SAr)I forms the U(II) complex, U(SAr), in which the metal is protected by the flanking arene rings of the ligand, but they move out of the way to accommodate the four electron reduction of PhNNPh to form the U(VI) bis(imido) product U(SAr)(NPh)(THF). The KC reduction of U(SAr) generates a more reduced complex, KU(μ-SAr), initially identified by a -2.

Development of a framework on the incorporation of real-world evidence (RWE) into cancer drug funding decisions in Canada: the Canadian Real-world Evidence for Value of Cancer Drugs (CanREValue) collaboration.

Objective: The Canadian Real-world Evidence for Value in Cancer (CanREValue) Collaboration was established in response to growing interest in using real-world evidence (RWE) to support health technology assessment (HTA). CanREValue has developed a framework to generate and use RWE to inform cancer drug funding decisions.

Inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO) is an antibody-calicheamicin conjugate with high efficacy in lymphoid malignancies. It targets the B-cell surface protein CD22, which is expressed in most B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) cases, albeit with variable intensity. However, factors governing CD22 expression and thus leukemia sensitivity to InO remain incompletely understood.

Testing certain and uncertain incentives on study retention in a longitudinal social media survey among young adults: An embedded recruitment trial.

Introduction: Incentives can be effective in survey research but evidence is limited on how incentive type impacts survey retention in longitudinal social media-based surveys. This study examined how certain and uncertain incentives affect study retention among US young adults recruited online and whether incentive effects vary by sociodemographic factors.

Methods: Participants were randomized in a 1:1:1 ratio to a three-arm parallel trial ( = 1615) with (1) a lottery for a $200 gift card (uncertain), (2) a cash equivalent (CE) of a $5 gift card per survey (certain); or (3) a combination of both options (combined), and were surveyed at baseline, 30 days, and 60 days.
