Objectives: The purpose of this paper was to compare the efficacy of covered stents (CSs) and bare metal stents (BMSs) in treating all types of aortoiliac occlusive disease (AIOD) and subsequently to analyze the risk factors associated with restenosis, limb salvage, and patency.
Methods: This prospective cohort study included consecutive patients with AIOD who underwent aortoiliac angioplasty, and two groups of patients were evaluated: patients with AIOD submitted to endovascular treatment with the use of covered stents and bare metal stents. Patients with critical limb ischemia or incapacitating claudication who underwent aortoiliac angioplasty during the index period were eligible for the study.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with an increased risk of distant metastases. While pathological complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy predicts favorable outcomes, data suggest it may not uniformly protect against central nervous system (CNS) relapse. This study analyzed 774 TNBC patients to assess recurrence patterns.

Background: Public safety workers (PSW), such as police officers and firefighters, face a high prevalence of chronic low back pain (LBP). Effective and accessible interventions are essential to improve their health and job performance.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a m-health-based core stability exercise self-management program combined with health education compared to m-health-based health education alone in PSW with chronic LBP.
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a painful joint condition characterized by changes in quadriceps femoris muscle architecture and quality. Although ultrasound is an emerging tool for evaluating muscle conditions in this population, its usefulness and clinical implications remain unclear.
Objectives: To investigate the effects of knee OA on quadriceps muscle architecture, summarize ultrasound protocols used in studies, and explore the associations between muscle characteristics with symptoms and physical function.
Purpose: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is a common side effect among breast cancer survivors. Emerging evidence suggests that exercise may help manage CRCI. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the impact of exercise programs on cognitive function in breast cancer survivors.

This study assessed the effects of OC in pig diets on intestinal morphometry and blood parameters. Twenty-four Bísaro pigs were randomly assigned to three treatments: OC0 (control), OC15 (15% dehydrated OC), and OC25 (25% dehydrated OC) for 93 days.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe olive oil industry generates large quantities of olive cake (OC), making its use in animal feed an environmentally sustainable alternative. Considering that the ham of Bísaro pigs is traditionally used for the production of cured ham, the analysis of raw meat is essential to understand how diet influences its quality before the maturation process. This study examined the effect of different types of OC in the diets of Bísaro pigs, focusing on the chemical compositions and fatty acid profiles of three fresh ham muscles- (BF), (SM), and (ST).

Among these, olive cake (OC)-a primary by-product of olive oil extraction-stands out due to its high content of bioactive compounds and potential for value-added recycling. This study focused on characterizing six OC samples from the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro regions, collected at different processing times and mills.

To this end, loins and "cachaços" were processed using a standardized manufacturing flowchart to produce dry-cured products. The two products were manufactured using the same formulation, ingredients, and curing process.

Background: Breast cancer is a prevalent form of cancer among women worldwide, often accompanied by physical and psychological side effects due to the disease and the treatment's aggressiveness. Regular physical exercise has emerged as a non-pharmacological approach to improve the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. We herein report the protocol of the WaterMama Study, which aims to evaluate the effects of land- or water-based aerobic exercise programs, compared to a health education program, on cancer-related fatigue and other health-related outcomes in breast cancer survivors.

Furthermore, they can contribute to more sustainable agricultural systems. The productivity and chemical composition of legumes is highly variable between species, cultivars, and with the edaphoclimatic conditions.

A great proportion of these deaths occur after resuscitation due to post-cardiac arrest syndrome, which is characterized by the ischemia-reperfusion injury that affects the role body. Understanding physiopathology is mandatory to discover new treatment strategies and obtain better results.

In EAOPs, electrogenerated oxidizing agents, such as hydroxyl radical (HO), can react non-selectively with a wide range of organic compounds, degrading and mineralizing their structures to unharmful molecules like CO, HO, and inorganic ions. To this date, a broad spectrum of advanced electrocatalysts have been developed and applied for the treatment of compounds of interest in different matrices, specifically aiming at enhancing the degradation performance.

The carcasses of 40 animals fed a diet with five treatments (T1—Basic diet and commercial feed; T2—Basic diet + 10% crude olive cake; T3—Basic diet + 10% olive cake, two phases; T4—Basic diet + 10% exhausted olive cake; T5—Basic diet + 10% exhausted olive cake + 1% olive oil) were used to study the effect on carcass traits, physicochemical meat quality and lipid composition of meat and backfat. There were no significant differences between treatments for the conformation measurements performed, except for the length at the seventh and last rib (p < 0.

The control group was fed with a control diet without grape stalks (C), two experimental groups were fed on diets with 5% and 10% incorporation of U (5U and 10U), and two with 5% and 10% incorporation of T (5T and 10T). Rabbits fed with T diets showed higher daily weight gain ( = 0.

An innovative delivery system based on bacteriophages-loaded alginate-nanohydroxyapatite hydrogel was developed as a multifunctional approach for local tissue regeneration and infection prevention and control. Bacteriophages were efficiently encapsulated, without jeopardizing phage viability and functionality, nor affecting hydrogel morphology and chemical composition. Bacteriophage delivery occurred by swelling-disintegration-degradation process of the alginate structure and was influenced by environmental pH.

The husbandry of chicken for meat generates high levels of gases, being a serious problem for the health of birds and workers as well as for the environment. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of clinoptilolite as litter additive on the concentrations and emissions of ammonia (NH), nitrous oxide (NO), carbon dioxide (CO), and methane (CH) from a breeding hen house under Mediterranean climate conditions. Two similar breeding hen houses were selected, and one house was assigned as control whereas the other house was treated with clinoptilolite as a litter additive.
