To investigate the incidence of new-onset diabetic retinopathy (DR) in individuals with pre-existing type 2 diabetes (T2D) up to 3 years post SARS-CoV-2 infection. This retrospective study consisted of 5151 COVID-19 and 5151 propensity-matched non-COVID-19 patients with T2D in the Montefiore Health System between 1 March 2020 and 17 January 2023. The primary outcome was new-onset DR at least 2 months after the index date up to 17 January 2023.

This retrospective cohort study used propensity-matched cohorts with a 3-year follow-up (March 2020-July 2023) to determine incidence rates, relative risks, and risk factors for incident pulmonary conditions after COVID-19 exposure. Data were drawn from a multi-center health system in New York City. Participants had at least 30 days of follow-up and included patients with or without COVID-19 confirmed by PCR, diagnosed with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), or without COVID-19/LRTI testing.

Background: Accurate prediction of pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy has significant clinical utility in the management of breast cancer treatment. Although multimodal deep learning models have shown promise for predicting pCR from medical imaging and other clinical data, their adoption has been limited due to challenges with interpretability and generalizability across institutions.

The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that COVID-19 status increases the incidence of new hypertension (HTN) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2D). This retrospective study consisted of 46,448 patients with T2D from the Montefiore Health System in the Bronx (3/01/2020-7/01/2023), of which 13,801 had a positive COVID-19 test on record. Contemporary controls included those hospitalized for other lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) ( = 1638) and nonhospitalized patients without COVID-19 or LRTI ( = 31009).

Background: COVID-19 pandemic-related disruptions of mammography screening, breast cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment options are not well understood with respect to social determinants of health, especially three years post-pandemic.

Methods: This retrospective observational study included patients screened by mammography or diagnosed with breast cancer from January 2019 to February 2023 in the urban population in the Bronx.

Results: Screening and diagnostic mammography, and breast cancer diagnoses from April to August 2020 dropped by 61%, 47%, and 42%, respectively, compared to pre-pandemic (Jan 2019-Mar 2020) and largely recovered by September 2020.

We investigated the long-term kidney and cardiovascular outcomes of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) after COVID-19. Our retrospective cohort consisted of 834 CKD patients with COVID-19 and 6,167 CKD patients without COVID-19 between 3/11/2020 to 7/1/2023. Multivariate competing risk regression models were used to estimate risk (as adjusted hazard ratios (aHR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI)) of CKD progression to a more advanced stage (Stage 4 or 5) and major adverse kidney events (MAKE), and risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) at 6-, 12-, and 24-month follow up.

Purpose: Diffusion-weighted arterial spin labeling (DW-ASL) MRI has been proposed to determine the rate of water exchange (K) across the blood brain barrier (BBB). This study aims to further evaluate K MRI by comparing it with standard dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI and histology in association with mannitol-induced disruption of the BBB.
