Background: Predicting post-surgical morphometric changes in breast augmentation remains challenging. A key alteration is the increase in nipple-to-inframammary crease (N-IMC) distance, which affects aesthetics. This study quantifies N-IMC changes after subfascial breast augmentation and develops a predictive model incorporating anatomical and implant-related factors.

Priority research directions for wildfire science: views from a historically fire-prone and an emerging fire-prone country.

Fire regimes are changing across the globe, with new wildfire behaviour phenomena and increasing impacts felt, especially in ecosystems without clear adaptations to wildfire. These trends pose significant challenges to the scientific community in understanding and communicating these changes and their implications, particularly where we lack underlying scientific evidence to inform decision-making. Here, we present a perspective on priority directions for wildfire science research-through the lens of academic and government wildfire scientists from a historically wildfire-prone (USA) and emerging wildfire-prone (UK) country.

Low-Cost PM Sensor Performance Characteristics against Meteorological Influence in Sub-Saharan Africa: Evidence from the Air Sensor Evaluation and Training Facility for the West Africa Project.

Fine particulate matter (PM) pollution represents a major environmental health risk in Africa. The use of low-cost sensors (LCS) for air quality monitoring for policy and civic engagement in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has become paramount, as access to traditional reference-grade instruments is still sparse. Yet, studies pertaining to sensor performance under SSA's meteorological conditions and diverse emission sources are limited.

Caring for children with SAM: Intersectional stories of shame, blame and stigmatisation in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya.

This paper draws from qualitative research undertaken with the mothers and primary caregivers of children aged under 5 years old and in recovery from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), as well as other community members, across three study sites in Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The paper highlights how nutrition-related stigma is constructed and enacted in complex ways, by multiple actors and across diverse settings. Adopting an intersectional approach, the paper identifies how stigma emerges at the intersections of social identity, especially age, gender, and associated beliefs about women's, and especially young women's, assumed (in)capacity to care.

Building Interprofessional Educational Bridges internationally: A reflection on our international partnership to equip future healthcare professionals with skills to care for rural and marginalized populations.

Background: Trans-Atlantic collaboration between nursing and pharmacy programs for interprofessional education (IPE) is uncommon. A literature search revealed limited sources for comparison, leading to the creation of a stakeholder committee from four colleges: Augusta University College of Nursing and University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, representing the United States of America, and Robert Gordon University Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and Pharmacy and Life Sciences, representing Scotland. A proposal outlining an international IPE experience designed to prepare future healthcare professionals to collaboratively address the challenges facing rural and underserved populations by supporting improvements in access to care for both countries.

Convalescing from SAM: The pitfalls and possibilities of caring for vulnerable children in Harare's high-density neighbourhoods.

It is widely recognised that children recovering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), remain vulnerable to risk of death following hospital discharge due to a wide range of biological and social factors. In light of this heightened risk, we report here on a qualitative study which aimed to better understand the caring contexts that children recovering from SAM were recuperating in within the high density urban and suburban districts of Harare, Zimbabwe. Undertaken with the mothers and other primary caregivers of 10 children enrolled on a large observational cohort study (HOPE-SAM), this paper identifies several dimensions of the women's lives that impede their caring capabilities.

Breast augmentation procedures using silicone implants have become increasingly popular over the past six decades. This article addresses the concerns of patients regarding implant strength by providing clinicians with valuable information in addition to video and pictorial evidence to share, fostering reassurance. The article focuses on the structural integrity and stability of breast implants, which play a critical role in their long-term performance and patient satisfaction.

Dynamic models augmented by hierarchical data: an application of estimating HIV epidemics at sub-national level.

Dynamic models have been successfully used in producing estimates of HIV epidemics at the national level due to their epidemiological nature and their ability to estimate prevalence, incidence, and mortality rates simultaneously. Recently, HIV interventions and policies have required more information at sub-national levels to support local planning, decision-making and resource allocation. Unfortunately, many areas lack sufficient data for deriving stable and reliable results, and this is a critical technical barrier to more stratified estimates.

Introduction: Cannabis intoxication may increase the risk of motor vehicle crashes. However, reliable methods of assessing cannabis intoxication are limited. The presence of eyelid tremors is among the signs of cannabis use identified under the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Effects of acute cannabis inhalation on reaction time, decision-making, and memory using a tablet-based application.

Background: Acute cannabis use has been demonstrated to slow reaction time and affect decision-making and short-term memory. These effects may have utility in identifying impairment associated with recent use. However, these effects have not been widely investigated among individuals with a pattern of daily use, who may have acquired tolerance.

The AIDS Epidemic Model 2023 for Estimating HIV Trends and Transmission Dynamics in Asian Epidemic Settings.

Background: Thirteen Asian countries use the AIDS Epidemic Model (AEM) as their HIV model of choice. This article describes AEM, its inputs, and its application to national modeling.

Setting: AEM is an incidence tool used by Spectrum for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS global estimates process.

Measuring HIV Acquisitions Among Partners of Key Populations: Estimates From HIV Transmission Dynamic Models.

Background: Key populations (KPs), including female sex workers (FSWs), gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), and transgender women (TGW) experience disproportionate risks of HIV acquisition. The UNAIDS Global AIDS 2022 Update reported that one-quarter of all new HIV infections occurred among their non-KP sexual partners. However, this fraction relied on heuristics regarding the ratio of new infections that KPs transmitted to their non-KP partners to the new infections acquired among KPs (herein referred to as "infection ratios").

Background: Previously, The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS estimated proportions of adult new HIV infections among key populations (KPs) in the last calendar year, globally and in 8 regions. We refined and updated these, for 2010 and 2022, using country-level trend models informed by national data.

Methods: Infections among 15-49 year olds were estimated for sex workers (SWs), male clients of female SW, men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), transgender women (TGW), and non-KP sex partners of these groups.

Formulation and acceptability of local nutrient-dense foods for young children: A formative study for the Child Health, Agriculture and Integrated Nutrition (CHAIN) Trial in rural Zimbabwe.

Stunting affects almost one-quarter of children globally, leading to reduced human capacity and increased long-term risk of chronic disease. Despite intensive infant and young child feeding (IYCF) interventions, many children do not meet their requirements for essential nutrients. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing an IYCF intervention utilizing nutrient-dense powders from egg, biofortified sugar beans and Moringa oleifera leaf in rural Zimbabwe.

Rethinking international financing for health to better respond to future pandemics.

International financing for health has been high on the political and global health agenda since COVID-19. The recent launch of the Pandemic Fund represents the first consolidated effort of the international community to mobilise additional voluntary financial resources for the purpose of strengthening global efforts in pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (PPR). Against such a dynamic landscape, building on recent critiques and new policy proposals, we propose a new generation of more equitable, effective and coordinated financing arrangements for pandemic PPR and for global health and development more broadly: lessons that could be applied in the ongoing endeavour of the Pandemic Fund.

"Empowering Us": A community-led survey of real-world perspectives of adults with type 1 diabetes using insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring to manage their glucose levels.

Objective: To conduct an Australian community-led survey of adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D), identifying priorities for, and barriers to, optimal use of advanced glucose management technologies.

Research Design And Methods: A 30-question online survey of current or past users of insulin pump therapy (IPT), real-time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM), or intermittently scanned CGM (isCGM) explored perceptions regarding device design, access, education, outcomes, and support.

Results: Between November 2021 and January 2022, surveys were completed by 3,380 participants (age [mean ± SD] 45 ± 16 years; 62% female; 20 ± 14 years diabetes), with 55%, 82%, and 55% reporting experience with IPT, RT-CGM, and isCGM, respectively.

Seven leadership and followership lessons from kidney transplantation during lockdown.

Background: The renal transplant team in Northern Ireland performed 70 transplants in 61 days during the first wave of COVID-19, an 8-fold increase in their typical activity. Mobilising diverse professional skills to achieve this number, especially under COVID-19 conditions, required extraordinary effort on the part of everyone involved along the transplant patient pathway, management and staff from other patient groups.

Methods: Fifteen transplant team members were interviewed to explore their experiences during this time.

The Effect of Drains and Compressive Garments Versus Progressive Tensioning Sutures on Seroma Formation in Abdominoplasty.

Seroma is a common problem following abdominoplasty surgery. Both compressive garments with drains and progressive tension sutures have their advocates to minimise seroma formation. This is a retrospective study in which patients underwent an identical surgical procedure, except for use of drains and garments in comparison to progressive tension sutures between 2005 and 2020.

Child Health, Agriculture and Integrated Nutrition (CHAIN): protocol for a randomised controlled trial of improved infant and young child feeding in rural Zimbabwe.

Introduction: Over one-quarter of children in sub-Saharan Africa are stunted; however, commercial supplements only partially meet child nutrient requirements, cannot be sustainably produced, and do not resolve physiological barriers to adequate nutrition (eg, inflammation, microbiome dysbiosis and metabolic dysfunction). Redesigning current infant and young child feeding (IYCF) interventions using locally available foods to improve intake, uptake and utilisation of nutrients could ameliorate underlying pathogenic pathways and improve infant growth during the critical period of complementary feeding, to reduce the global burden of stunting.

Methods And Analysis: Child Health Agriculture Integrated Nutrition is an open-label, individual household randomised trial comparing the effects of IYCF versus 'IYCF-plus' on nutrient intake during infancy.

Gender, caring work, and the embodiment of kufungisisa: Findings from a global health intervention in Shurugwi District, Zimbabwe.

This paper analyses the findings from qualitative interviews conducted as part of a cross-disciplinary pilot study into the efficacy of the Friendship Bench for promoting mental health amongst rural women living in Shurugwi District, Zimbabwe. Informed by UNICEF's nurturing care framework, the pilot study hypothesised that women's caring capabilities would be enhanced if a cost-effective intervention could be found for those suffering from common mental disorders (CMD), locally referred to as kufungisisa. Focusing on the women's accounts of their embodiment of kufungisisa, the paper further highlights the important role that gender plays in women's experience of common mental health disorders.
