Entangled states of photons form the backbone of many quantum technologies. Due to the lack of effective photon-photon interactions, the generation of these states is typically probabilistic. In the prevailing but fundamentally limited generation technique, known as postselection, the target photons are measured destructively in the generation process.

Socio-economic impacts of maritime GHG emission control measures on sustainable development in SIDS: Insights from a systematic literature review.

Maritime transportation and other port-related services directly or indirectly contribute to the social and economic growth of the economy. Small Island Developing States (SIDS), due to their geographic isolation, depend heavily on maritime transport to support various aspects of their livelihoods and trade, including food and energy security, disaster response, and sustainable development among others. However, mitigating GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from maritime transport continues to be a major challenge.

Critical Evaluation of Sphingolipids Detection by MALDI-MSI.

The increasing interest in the role of sphingolipids in (patho)physiology has led to the demand for visualization of these lipids within tissue samples (both from animal models and patient specimens) using techniques such as matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI). While increasingly adopted, detection of sphingolipids with MALDI-MSI is challenging due to: i) the significant structural variations of sphingolipid molecules, ii) the potential breakdown of the more complex molecules into structurally simpler species which may confound the analysis, and iii) the great difference in levels among sphingolipid classes and subspecies, with the low-abundant ones often being close to the detection limit. In this study, we adopted a multi-pronged approach to establish a robust pipeline for the detection of sphingolipids by MALDI-MSI and to establish best practices and limitations of this technology.

Women's awareness of perinatal mental health conditions and the acceptability of being asked about mental health in two regions in India: a qualitative study.

Background: Mental health conditions are common during pregnancy and the first year after childbirth. Early detection allows timely support and treatment to be offered, but identifying perinatal mental health conditions may be challenging due to stigma and under-recognition of symptoms. Asking about symptoms of mental health conditions during routine antenatal and postnatal appointments can help to identify women at risk.

Depression prevalence, its psychosocial and clinical predictors, in diabetes mellitus patients attending two health institutions of north India catering rural population.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) poses a greater risk of depression and a poor quality of life (QoL). There is a limited data regarding relationship of depression to QoL in patients from rural health care settings of North India.

Aim: To know the prevalence and predictors of depression in patients of DM among various sociodemographic, clinical and QoL variables.

Socioeconomic disparities in prehospital cardiac arrest outcomes: An analysis of the NEMSIS database.

Background: Socioeconomic disparities are engrained in the US healthcare system and may extend to the prehospital cardiac arrest setting where mortality is high.

Methods: Using the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) database, 150,003 cases were analyzed comparing socioeconomic status and cardiac arrest outcomes. Cardiac arrest outcomes were measured by the percent of cases that achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and the percent of cases in which ROSC occurred in the Emergency Department (ED) as opposed to a prehospital setting which was a proxy for the length of time spent in cardiac arrest.
