Dorsal ulnar cutaneous nerve conduction study based on nerve ultrasound.

This study investigates the impact of the anatomical separation point of the dorsal ulnar cutaneous nerve (DUCN) on nerve conduction studies (NCS). Involving 25 subjects with DUCN NCS findings, it utilizes ultrasound to mark the DUCN's divergence from the ulnar nerve. NCS was performed at four points relative to the separation point.

Surface anatomy and levator scapulae muscle injection: A cadaveric investigation.

Accurate detection of the levator scapulae muscle is critical for effective diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The commonly used surface anatomy approach has not been validated and is less accurate than ultrasound-guided techniques. Therefore, we determined the needle insertion point for the levator scapulae using a new technique based on the anatomy of the scapula.

Nontraumatic Myositis Ossificans After Spontaneous Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Case Report.

Myositis ossificans is uncommon in patients with nontraumatic brain injuries. This report presents a challenging case in which myositis ossificans was diagnosed and treated by medical management in a patient who was unable to complain of any symptoms due to akinetic mutism that occurred after nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. The patient had intermittent high-grade fever, and laboratory tests showed elevated C-reactive protein and D-dimer levels without clinical signs of infection two months after subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Hand Grip Strength, Osteoporosis, and Quality of Life in Middle-Aged and Older Adults.

: Hand grip strength (HGS) and osteoporosis are known to be closely related to the health condition of the elderly, respectively. Comprehensive studies including adults over middle age were insufficient. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between HGS with osteoporosis and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults aged >40 years.

Optimal needle electromyography approach to the serratus anterior muscle.

Introduction/aims: There are two conventional needle electromyography (EMG) approaches to the serratus anterior (SA), both of which can result in erroneous insertion into adjacent structures such as the latissimus dorsi (LD), teres major, or external oblique abdominis muscles and pose a risk of long thoracic nerve (LTN) injury. Therefore, we identified a novel needle insertion point for the SA in cadavers that avoids other muscles and LTN injury.

Methods: This study included 17 cadavers: 12 to devise the new method and 5 to verify its accuracy.

Evidence of lateralised white matter plasticity: A longitudinal study of balance performance in nonexpert healthy adults.

Training-induced plasticity by practicing expert skills has been of particular interest; however, little is known about white matter plasticity for improving a fundamental element of body function, such as balance or postural control. This study explored white matter plasticity in nonexpert healthy adults, based on stepwise balance training. Seventeen participants were included and performed a home-based balance training program for 4 weeks (30 min/day, 3 days/week).

Relation between Handgrip Strength and Quality of Life in Patients with Arthritis in Korea: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2015-2018.

: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between handgrip strength (HGS) and quality of life (QOL) in patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA). : We enrolled 13,966 from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2015 to 2018. All participants underwent the health-related QOL assessment using the European Quality of Life Scale-Five dimensions (EQ-5D) and measured the HGS.

Integrity of the Inferior Cerebellar Peduncle Correlates with Ambulatory Function after Hemorrhagic Stroke.

Objectives: Cerebro-cerebellar connectivity plays a critical role in motor recovery after stroke; however, the underlying mechanism of walking recovery is unclear. The dorsal spinocerebellar pathway has been suggested as a biomarker of poststroke ambulatory function. We aimed to explore the association between ambulatory function and the dorsal spinocerebellar pathway's integrity after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

Among multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), and Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have become major nosocomial pathogens that are endemic worldwide. If VRE/CRE are present as colonizing organisms but do not act as pathogens, these organisms do not cause symptoms and do not require antibiotic use. However, once gastrointestinal colonization with VRE/CRE occurs, it can persist for long periods and serve as a reservoir for transmission to other patients.

Reversible Psychosis Caused by Disconnection of the Limbic System: Clinical Reasoning Using Diffusion Tensor Tractography.

Injury to the limbic system can result in amnesia, language difficulties, behavioral abnormalities, and psychological disorders. We present a patient who suffered psychosis related to disconnection of the limbic system after intraventricular and orbitofrontal hemorrhages following removal of a sellar meningioma. Diffusion tensor tractography was valuable for evaluating the structural integrity of the injured limbic tracts and determining the regeneration of tracts corresponding to neuropsychiatric recovery after cognitive rehabilitation.
