Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on a new automated immunoassay for measuring CXCL9, a biomarker linked to type 1 inflammation, which could help in assessing various health conditions, including COVID-19 and asthma.
  • - The assay demonstrated reliable performance, with minimal variation (7%) over five days and a low limit of quantitation (2.2 pg/mL), ensuring it can effectively detect CXCL9 levels in plasma or serum.
  • - Findings showed that patients with acute COVID-19, asthma, and certain lung diseases had significantly higher CXCL9 levels compared to healthy individuals, indicating the assay’s potential clinical utility in inflammation-related conditions.

Background: Chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (CHP) is a heterogeneous fibrotic interstitial pneumonia resulting from the immune response of susceptible individuals to inhaled antigens. Genetic predispositions have been suggested in CHP; however, the link between susceptibility genes and fibrotic progression has not been elucidated fully. Recent data suggest that variants in Toll-interacting protein gene (TOLLIP) are associated with lung diseases.
