Genetic causes of familial isolated pituitary adenomas (FIPAs) remain mostly elusive. A cohort of 20 FIPA cases from 12 different geographical regions of Türkiye was included to characterize clinical and genetic features. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on genomic DNA of index cases, followed by confirmation through Sanger sequencing utilizing indexes and their relatives to interpret disease associated variants.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics, diagnostic approaches, and treatment outcomes of insulinoma patients from diverse regions across the country. We conducted a retrospective analysis of medical records from 76 adult patients diagnosed with insulinoma between 2018 and 2023 at 15 medical centres. Data collected included demographics, presenting symptoms, laboratory and imaging results, surgical reports, pathology findings, and clinical follow-up information.

Purpose: Bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS) is the gold standard for localizing ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS). While corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) was initially used for stimulation, desmopressin has become a common alternative. This research evaluates desmopressin's effectiveness in lateralizing Cushing's disease (CD) during BIPSS compared to CRH stimulation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare various clinical and hormonal characteristics, treatment methods, and survival outcomes of ectopic Cushing's syndrome (ECS) between male and female patients.
  • Data was collected from 11 medical centers, evaluating 54 patients (28 females and 26 males), and found similarities in age, clinical presentation, and hormone levels despite some differences like higher rates of diabetes and osteoporosis in males.
  • Overall, the results showed comparable disease progression, treatment responses, and remission rates between sexes, but indicated that males experience more severe conditions such as hyperglycemia and osteoporosis.

Objective: Primary hypophysitis might be challenging to diagnose, and there is a lack of evidence regarding optimal treatment strategies due to rarity of the disease. We aim to investigate the clinical features and compare the outcomes of different management strategies of primary hypophysitis in a large group of patients recruited on a nationwide basis.

Design: A retrospective observational study.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to identify factors affecting disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), as previous research in this area has been limited.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 257 patients, finding that 51% had persistent/recurrent disease while 49% had no evidence of disease at follow-up, with various factors like age, metastasis, and initial response influencing DFS outcomes.
  • - The key finding was that the lack of an excellent response after initial treatment is the strongest predictor of worse DFS, highlighting the need for diligent follow-up even in patients who initially respond well.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on creating machine learning algorithms to differentiate between types of ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome using biochemical and radiological data.
  • The research involved 106 patients and used logistic regression, achieving an average diagnostic accuracy of 86% and an AUROC value of 0.850.
  • Key factors influencing the model's output included specific test results and characteristics of pituitary adenomas, and the developed algorithm is accessible to clinicians for practical use.

Objective: Postoperative data on Cushing's disease (CD) are equivocal in the literature. These discrepancies may be attributed to different series with different criteria for remission and variable follow-up durations. Additional data from experienced centers may address these discrepancies.

Introduction: Cabergoline (CAB) is the most used dopamine agonist in the treatment of prolactinomas. Studies related to the treatment of Parkinson's disease have shown that dopamine agonists can lead to fibrotic syndromes affecting the heart and the lung. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible pulmonary side effects of CAB in prolactinoma patients.

Purpose: To asses risk of new-onset impulse control disorders (ICDs) in patients with Cushing's disease (CD) who initiated cabergoline (CBG) and to determine frequency of ICDs in CBG-treated patients with CD.

Methods: This naturalistic observational study had prospective and cross-sectional arms which included patients at five referral centers based in Istanbul. Patients who were scheduled for CBG were assigned to prospective arm.

The purpose of this study was to determine possible cut-off levels of basal DHEA-S percentile rank in the differential diagnosis of patients with Cushing's syndrome (CS) with ACTH levels in the gray zone and normal DHEA-S levels. In this retrospective study including 623 pathologically confirmed CS, the DHEA-S percentile rank was calculated in 389 patients with DHEA-S levels within reference interval. The patients were classified as group 1 (n=265 Cushing's disease; CD), group 2 (n=104 adrenal CS) and group 3 (n=20 ectopic ACTH syndrome).

Background/aim: To determine risk factors associated with the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients 10 years after giving birth.

Materials And Methods: Medical records of patients with former GDM were screened. Eligible patients were invited to the hospital to obtain information about their present health status.

Article Synopsis
  • Thyroid cancer associated with ovarian teratoma is rare, as shown in a case of a 26-year-old woman who had a follicular variant papillary thyroid carcinoma found during surgery for cystic ovarian masses.
  • After surgery, her tumor markers returned to normal, but follow-up imaging revealed cystic masses in her abdomen.
  • Total thyroidectomy and I-131 treatment were successful in eradicating the cancer, and it is suggested that such cases be approached similarly to primary thyroid cancers, combining radical surgery as necessary, with an option for fertility-preserving procedures.
