Background: Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and bleeding are major postoperative complications that increase healthcare system costs. The use of Hemopatch® Sealing Hemostat has been shown to reduce the incidence of such postoperative complications. This technical report aims to provide neurosurgeons with the best recommendations for the effective use of Hemopatch® as a hemostatic and dural sealant in cranial and spinal procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case study of a 14-year-old girl highlighted the challenges of diagnosing prolactinomas, as her symptoms were initially mistaken for normal developmental changes, but later evaluations showed a significant pituitary mass.
  • * Early surgical treatment successfully normalized prolactin levels and triggered normal puberty in the patient, emphasizing that adolescents with aggressive tumors may benefit from prompt surgery instead of relying solely on medication.

We describe a rare and complex case of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis (SCST) in a 70-year-old patient who initially presented with ocular symptoms that rapidly progressed to severe intracranial vascular complications, including subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Despite the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics and anticoagulants, the patient's condition deteriorated. SCST, often caused by sinus infections, presents a significant diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma, with mortality rates exceeding 20%.

The effects of clinically relevant concentrations of lidocaine on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and associated lung cancer behaviors have rarely been investigated. The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of lidocaine on EMT and its related phenomena, including chemoresistance. Lung cancer cell lines (A549 and LLC.

The coexistence of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is rarely reported in the literature. According to the present literature, these GBM or glioma-related vascular malformations may present simultaneously in distinct regions of the brain or occur in the same area but at different times. So far, these distinct hypervascular glioblastomas have been described but are not classified as a separate pathological entities.

Signaling driven by nucleic acid sensors participates in interferonopathy-mediated autoimmune diseases. NLRP12, a pyrin-containing NLR protein, is a negative regulator of innate immune activation and type I interferon (IFN-I) production. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) derived from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients expressed lower levels of NLRP12, with an inverse correlation with IFNA expression and high disease activity.

Objective: Discrepancies in the definition of adductor canal block (ACB) lead to inconsistent results. To investigate the actual analgesic and motor-sparing effects of ACB by anatomically defining femoral triangle block (FTB), proximal ACB (p-ACB), and distal ACB (d-ACB), we re-classified the previously claimed ACB approaches according to the ultrasound findings or descriptions in the corresponding published articles. A meta-analysis with subsequent subgroup analyses based on these corrected results was performed to examine the true impact of ACB on its analgesic effect and motor function (quadriceps muscle strength or mobilization ability).

Article Synopsis
  • Piriformis syndrome (PS) causes deep gluteal pain that may extend to the thigh and leg, affecting patients who don't improve with medication or physical therapy.
  • A study with 84 participants compared the effects of lidocaine, botulinum toxin A, and ozone injections on PS, assessing pain and disability scores at multiple time points.
  • Results showed that while lidocaine and ozone provided immediate relief, botulinum toxin was more effective in managing pain and disability over the longer term.

  • The iliopsoas plane (IP) is a fascia layer located under the iliopsoas muscle complex and is being explored for new ultrasound-guided pain relief methods for hips.
  • A study using pelvic MR images from 49 adult Eastern Asians showed specific measurements for the IP, including its width (10.7 mm), depth (48.5 mm), and needle-beam angle (84.2 degrees).
  • The findings highlighted age-related differences in IP width, particularly that older patients had wider planes, which could help improve techniques for hip pain management using ultrasound-guided interventions.

Introduction: Intracranial collision tumors are rare diseases in which two distinct neoplasms are found at the same location. We present an unusual case of an intracranial collision tumor composed of atypical meningioma (WHO grade II) and glioblastoma.

Presentation Of Case: The case was a 56-year-old woman hospitalized due to generalized weakness and dizziness.

Unlabelled: Injectable poly-d,l-lactic acid (PDLLA) is a new collagen-stimulating filler containing PDLLA microspheres and carboxymethyl cellulose. It is available as a lyophilized powder that must be reconstituted with a diluent before administration. The aims of this study were to investigate the efficacy of different diluents and a new accelerating "back-and-forth" method.

Background: Spontaneous spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) is rare but leads to severe nerve compression. According to the symptoms, surgery decompression and conservative treatment are justified options. We present a spontaneous spinal SDH case treated by decompression surgery for the lumbar region and conservative observation for the thoracic region.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) as a treatment for patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) and related perfusion issues.
  • A total of 78 patients were analyzed, with 37 receiving SCS treatment and 41 not, assessing their walking distance, walking time, sleep quality, and pain levels using a visual analog scale (VAS).
  • Results showed significant improvements one year after SCS implantation in the treatment group, with better walking capabilities, enhanced sleep quality, and reduced pain compared to those who did not receive SCS.

Background: Central nervous system (CNS) melioidosis is notorious because of the difficulty in bacteria eradication and the destruction of brain structures. Early manifestation of CNS melioidosis mimics malignancy or stroke. We present a case of CNS melioidosis that initially manifested as malignancy.

Background: Some complex dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) are lesions that typically have numerous arterial feeders. Surgery, including resection of fistulas or skeletonization of the diseased sinus, is still one of the important treatments for these lesions. However, major blood loss is usually encountered during craniotomy because of abundant arterial feeders from the scalp and transosseous vessels.

CLEC5A/MDL-1, a member of the myeloid C-type lectin family expressed on macrophages and neutrophils, is critical for dengue virus (DV)-induced hemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome in Stat1⁻/⁻ mice and ConA-treated wild type mice. However, whether CLEC5A is involved in the pathogenesis of viral encephalitis has not yet been investigated. To investigate the role of CLEC5A to regulate JEV-induced neuroinflammation, antagonistic anti-CLEC5A mAb and CLEC5A-deficient mice were generated.
