Acute Lung Injury is a common severe pathological condition that is usually caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) infection from bacteria. Enhanced activity of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) could attenuate LPS induced lung injury, However, it still remains unknown whether the enhanced activity of Nrf2 via suppression of Nrf2 nucleus export attenuates the LPS induced lung injury. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of inhibitors of Fyn on the LPS-induced acute lung injury and to explore its underlying molecular mechanisms.

The majority of ovarian cancer patients relapse after surgical resection. Evidence is accumulating regarding the role of surgery in disseminating cancer cells; in particular anaesthesia may have an impact on cancer re-occurrence. Here, we have investigated the metastatic potential of volatile anaesthetics isoflurane, sevoflurane and desflurane on ovarian cancer cells.

Cancer is the second cause of mortality worldwide, primarily owing to failure to cure metastatic disease. The need to target the metastatic process to reduce mortality is clear and research over the past decade has shown hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) to be one of the promising targets. In order for metastatic disease to be established, multiple steps need to be taken whereby the tumour cells escape into the bloodstream and survive, disseminate and then establish at a premetastatic niche.
