We investigated whether pretreatment with statin may prevent contrast-induced nephropathy in patients who underwent primary coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). A total of 279 consecutive patients who underwent successful primary angioplasty for a first AMI were studied. Methods: One hundred and thirty-four consecutive patients with bifurcations were treated with PCI in our hospital from April 2004 to October 2005.
Background: The emergence of drug-eluting stents (DES) has dramatically reduced the incidence of in-stent restenosis. This study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of sirolimus-eluting cobalt-chrome stents (Firebird 2) for treating patients with coronary artery disease.
Methods: Sixty-seven patients with de novo or non-stented restenostic coronary lesions were chosen to receive the Firebird 2 stent as the final treatment (Firebird 2 group).
Objective: To compare the short- and long-term clinical outcomes between sirolimus-eluting stent (Cypher stent) and paclitaxel-eluting stent (TAXUS stent) in patients with in-stent restenosis (ISR) lesions of the coronary arteries.
Methods: From December 2002 to March 2005, 253 patients with ISR lesions of the coronary arteries were selected and divided into two groups. Cypher group (152 cases) was treated with Cypher or Cypher Select stents, and TAXUS group (101 cases) with TAXUS stents.
Background: Advanced age independently predicts early and late mortality and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Randomized clinical trials indicate that sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) implantation reduces target lesion revascularization (TLR), but there are limited data on the impact of age on outcomes following SES implantation in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in real-world practice.
Methods: A total of 333 CAD patients with 453 lesions were enrolled in this study.
Objective: This post-marketing surveillance registry is aimed at determining the safety and reliability of the CYPHER Select Sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) in routine clinical practice.
Background: Little information and angiographic follow-up data in large-scale "real world" registry is available for the CYPHER Select SES, an advanced-generation SES.
Methods: This was a prospective multicenter (20 centers) registry.
Background: In animal models, pretreatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) can reduce no-reflow. In the present study, we investigated whether pretreatment with ACEI may prevent no-reflow in patients who underwent primary coronary intervention for AMI.

Objective: To compare the clinical and angiographic outcome in patients with total occlusion lesion treated with drug-eluting stent (DES) or bare-metal stent (BMS).
Methods: A total of 155 (138 males) consecutive patients with total occlusion lesion underwent successful revascularization with DES (n = 74) or BMS (n = 81) in our hospital were included in this study. All patients received aspirin 300 mg and clopidogrel 75 mg once daily for at least 3 months after the procedure.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of treating bifurcation lesions with two drug-eluting stent (DES) techniques.
Methods: From October 2003 to June 2005, 112 patients with 113 bifurcation lesions with severe stenosis at the ostium of side branch and the diameter > or = 2.50 mm were treated by two DES.
Background: Traditional contrast coronary arteriography affords only an indirect view of aspects of atheromata related to their propensity to trigger thromboses, so it is urgent to recognize the vulnerable person who is more likely to develop myocardial infarction (MI) among patients with visible lesion or stenosis in coronary artery.
Methods And Results: Two hundred and eighty-eight patients (144 MI patients, 144 controls) who had either a visible lesion or differing extent of stenosis in 1 or more major coronary arteries were consecutively enrolled. Lipid profile, C-reactive protein (CRP), smoking, hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes were analyzed for their association with MI.
Background: Postconditioning with multiple very short coronary occlusions immediately after prolonged ischemia has been found to reduce infarction size. However, it remains unknown whether postconditioning under the normal or hypercholesterolemic condition can also reduce myocardial no-reflow for which endothelial dysfunction is an important mechanism.
Methods: Twenty-four normal mini-swines were randomized into 3 study groups: 8 in control, 8 in postconditioning, 8 in sham-operated group.

Objective: To compare the beneficial effects of Atenolol and Metoprolol on cardiomyocyte apoptosis and related gene expressions after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in rats.
Methods: AMI model was established with the ligation of anterior descending coronary artery in 251 randomly selected female SD rats. Twenty-four hours after operation, the 124 survivors were randomly assigned to AMI control group (MI group, n = 43), Atenolol group (group A, 10 mg x kg(-1) d(-1), n = 39), and Metoprolol group (group B, 20 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1), n = 42).
Background: Recently, numerous randomized and controlled trials have demonstrated great advantages of drug eluting stents (DES) with respect to significant reduction of restenosis and recurrence of symptoms and improvement of clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Little is known about the comparative effects between DES and bare metal stents (BMS) for bifurcation angioplasty in the Chinese population.
