Aims: The utility of circulating cytokine concentrations in ulcerative colitis is limited due to poor assay sensitivity. We aimed to examine the relationship of circulating cytokine concentrations, when measured by ultrasensitive detection, to disease activity, response to induction therapy, and physiological stimuli associated with mucosal injurious events.
Methods: Plasma was obtained from adult patients with ulcerative colitis in whom disease activity was assessed; before/after induction therapy; and before/after acute psychological stress and cervical transcutaneous vagal nerve/sham stimulation.
Description: The purpose of this Clinical Practice Update Expert Review is to describe key principles in the evaluation and management of patients with disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) or hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSDs) with coexisting postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and/or mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).
Methods: This expert review was commissioned and approved by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Institute Clinical Practice Updates Committee and the AGA Governing Board to provide timely guidance on a topic of high clinical importance to the AGA membership, and underwent internal peer review by the Clinical Practice Updates Committee and external peer review through standard procedures of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. These Best Practice Advice statements were drawn from a review of the published literature and from expert opinion.

Introduction: The prevalence of disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI) among people with obesity in the general population is unknown. Our aim was to assess the prevalence of DGBI among obese subjects in the general population in comparison with normal or overweight subjects, as well as exploring factors associated with DGBI in obesity in Europe.
Methods: We included subjects who completed the internet-based survey of the Rome Foundation Global Epidemiology study in 11 European countries.
Background: Conditioned pain modulation (CPM) is considered a human proxy for descending inhibitory pain pathways. However, there is wide variation in the CPM response described in the literature and ongoing debate about its utility.
Methods: Here we explored CPM in women with ( = 59) and without ( = 26) chronic pelvic pain (CPP), aiming to determine the magnitude of effect and factors influencing variability in the CPM response.
Background And Aims: The co-existence of fatigue, pain and faecal incontinence in people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is unknown. We aimed to determine the presence of and relationship between these symptoms and patients' desire for intervention.
Methods: Adults with IBD in the UK, recruited from clinics, the national IBD-BioResource, a patient charity and social media sources, completed PROMIS validated patient-reported questionnaires to identify fatigue, pain and faecal incontinence, in addition to symptom severity and impact, disease activity, anxiety and depression questionnaires and questions about their desire for help with these symptoms.
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causes fatigue, pain, and fecal urgency/incontinence symptoms. Identifying symptom profile subgroups and related psychological correlates might enable earlier intervention and more effective tailored treatment pathways.
Methods: This study was nested within a randomized controlled trial of a digital symptom intervention for people with IBD (n = 780).

Background: FODMAPs produce similar small bowel water and colonic gas in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and healthy controls (HCs), despite IBS patients reporting increased gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms.
