Fluoride gels are widely used in dental prophylaxis due to their proven ability to prevent demineralization and promote remineralization of hard dental tissues. However, the effectiveness of fluoride release from such gels may be significantly influenced by environmental factors such as pH and the presence of calcium ions. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate how these variables affect fluoride ion release from three commercially available fluoride gels-Clarben, Flairesse, and Lunos.

Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-hydroxyapatite (HAP) biocomposites were produced by thermal processing to test the impact of HAP addition on the physicochemical and biological properties of PCL. Two different HAPs: zinc-modified and unmodified, were added to the polymer matrix to enhance their biocompatibility, surface properties, and antimicrobial activity. The overall properties of biocomposites were assessed by thermal and mechanical analysis, while their structure and morphology were assessed by electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy.

Therefore, fluoride prophylaxis should be highly individualized to provide patients with maximum benefits while minimizing the risk of toxic effects. This study aims to compare the degree of fluoride ion release from two commercially available dental fluoride gels (Fluormex and Fluor Protector Gel) in five different physiological solutions as well as their effect on pH.

In this systematic review, the authors aimed to investigate the state of knowledge on in vivo evaluations of chitosan and nanometric hydroxyapatite (nanohydroxyapatite, nHAp) scaffolds for bone-tissue regeneration. In March 2024, an electronic search was systematically conducted across the PubMed, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases using the keywords (hydroxyapatite) AND (chitosan) AND (scaffold) AND (biomimetic). Methodologically, the systematic review followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol to the letter.

Additionally, the investigation scrutinizes various modifications of the coating and their consequential effects on bone and cell line biocompatibility. On the specific date of November 2023, an exhaustive electronic search was conducted in esteemed databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, utilizing the meticulously chosen keywords ((titanium) AND ((osteoblasts) and hydroxyapatite)).

The modification of biomaterial surfaces has become increasingly relevant in the context of ongoing advancements in tissue engineering applications and the development of tissue-mimicking polymer materials. In this study, we investigated the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition of polyelectrolyte multilayer protein reservoirs consisting of poly-l-lysine (PLL) and hyaluronic acid (HA) on the hydrophobic surface of poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) elastomer. Using the methods of isothermal titration calorimetry and surface plasmon resonance, we systematically investigated the interactions between the polyelectrolytes and evaluated the deposition process in real time, providing insight into the phenomena associated with film assembly.

The narrative review aims to address the following questions: What is the essence of different dental sealants' activity, how does their chemical formula affect their mechanisms of caries prevention, and what makes a dental sealant efficient mean of caries prevention? Another vital issue is whether the sealants that contain fluoride, or any other additions, have potentially increased antimicrobial properties. An electronic search of the PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus databases was performed.

In the presented study, a PGS prepolymer (pPGS) was synthesized utilizing polycondensation technique (equimolar sebacic acid:glycerol ratio, 130 °C, 24 h). Subsequently, the pPGS was thermally cross-linked in vacuum oven in 130 °C for 84 and 168 h. The cylindrical and dumbbell-shaped samples were subjected for physico-chemical and thorough mechanical analysis including tensile and compressive strength evaluation as well as dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA).

Unlabelled: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of peginterferon alfa-2a [40KD] (Peg-IFNalpha-2a) plus ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C in an open-label programme in a routine clinical setting in Poland. Patients received Peg-IFNalpha-2a 180mg/week plus ribavirin 800-1200 mg/d for 48 weeks. Sustained virological response (SVR) was defined as undetectable HCV RNA (<50IU/mL) at the end of follow-up (week 72).

Within their natural course strong correlation between clinical view and serologic markers (autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis) or X-ray image abnormalities (primary sclerocholangitis) are observed. Significant diagnostic progress, recently seen, revealed major discrepancies in diagnosing and management of classic types of the diseases, suggesting co-association of their symptoms.

Hepatitis B virus infection remains a major epidemiological health problem worldwide, due to the high prevalence (350 mln new cases per year) and clinical consequences of this infection including chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and primary liver cancer. Two cases of patients with clinical symptoms of chronic hepatitis B without traditional serological markers, pointing to active hepatitis B viral replication, were presented. The diagnosis has been confirmed by molecular methods, typical histopathology of liver biopsy specimens, and biochemical improvement after lamivudine treatment.
