Importance: The incidence of HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) arising from the palatine tonsil and base of the tongue (BOT) is increasing among the older population. However, data on the prognostic impact of HPV status in patients 70 years and older who undergo up-front surgical treatment remain limited.
Objective: To evaluate whether HPV status is associated with survival outcomes in patients 70 years or older undergoing surgical treatment for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tonsil or BOT.
: Despite the well-established position of orthognathic surgery as a field of surgical treatment of deformities within the facial skeleton, it has not been possible to develop unanimous recommendations on how to approach fixation hardware after the healing period. In the absence of clear guidelines from opinion leaders and scientific societies on how to approach osteosynthesis after surgery, the decision to leave or remove fixation hardware is made individually by treatment centers, mostly based on their own experience. It is also important whether or not surgical procedures are financed by public funds.

Due to their heterogeneity, these neoplasms differ in their clinical course and response to the therapy. Therefore, it has become imperative to identify specific biological molecules that can potentially establish novel prognostic markers or targets for molecular therapy of HNSCC.

The oncologic outcomes of such regimens are comparable to those of total laryngectomy followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. However, the management of loco-regional recurrences after CRT remains a challenge, with salvage total laryngectomy being the only curative option.

We aimed to determine the risk factors for recurrence by margin status and to identify a margin cut-off point for improved survival in patients with close margins. We retrospectively reviewed adult patients treated at our centre from 2009 to 2021 for primary oral cancer.

Methods: Retrospective study of 284 patients treated for oral cancer from 2010 to 2021.
The study aims to assess and classify complications in patients treated for maxillary transverse deficiency using surgically assisted rapid maxillary/palatal expansion (SARME/SARPE) under general anesthesia. The classification of the complications aimed to assess the difficulty of their treatment as well as estimate its real cost. : The retrospective study covered 185 patients who underwent surgery for a skeletal deformity in the form of maxillary constriction or in which maxillary constriction was one of its components treated by a team of maxillofacial surgeons at one center (97 females and 88 males, aged 15 to 47 years, mean age 26.

While cellular senescence might play an important role in protection against cancer development, elevated and uncontrolled senescent cells accumulation may promote carcinogenesis by secreting a collection of pro-inflammatory factors, collectively termed the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).

Purpose: While there are several prognostic classifiers, to date, there are no validated predictive models that inform treatment selection for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).Our aim was to develop clinical and/or biomarker predictive models for patient outcome and treatment escalation for OPSCC.
Experimental Design: We retrospectively collated clinical data and samples from a consecutive cohort of OPSCC cases treated with curative intent at ten secondary care centers in United Kingdom and Poland between 1999 and 2012.
Objective: The study is a retrospective comparison of the usefulness of salvage surgery between a group of previously radiotherapy-treated patients (RTPs) and a group of patients who previously underwent partial surgery with both local and ± nodal recurrence.
Study Design: Retrospective study.
Setting: Multi-center academic hospital.
Inadequate resection margins in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma surgery necessitate adjuvant therapies such as re-resection and radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy and imply increasing morbidity and worse prognosis. On the other hand, taking larger margins by extending the resection also leads to avoidable increased morbidity. Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCCs) are often difficult to access; resections are limited by anatomy and functionality and thus carry an increased risk for close or positive margins.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analysed 100 cases of patients who had recurrent head and neck cancer and were treated in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery between 2011 and 2021. The study participants were divided into two groups depending on the method of reconstruction: 62 patients who underwent revascularised free flap reconstruction and 38 patients with pectoralis major myocutaneous flap.

Background/aims: Head and neck cancer (HNC) describes a range of malignant tumours that arise from the epithelium of the mucous membranes in the head and neck region, including the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, and paranasal sinuses. In Hungary, oral cancer is among the top ten causes of cancer-related death (Diz et al., 2017 [1]).

Background: Both anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) and thyroid lymphoma (TL) clinically present as rapidly enlarging neck masses. Unfortunately, in this situation, like in any other thyroid swelling, a routine fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology is the first and only diagnostic test performed at the initial contact in the average thyroid practice. FNA, however, has a low sensitivity in diagnosing ATC and TL, and by the time the often "inconclusive" result is known, precious time has evolved, before going for core-needle biopsy (CNB) or incisional biopsy (IB) as the natural next diagnostic steps.

The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire (0 no disability to 100 most severe disability) was applied to 20 patients (M: 16; F: 4) who underwent ablative surgery and reconstruction of the head and neck using a SAFF. Applications, as well as the donor site, recipient site and flap-related complications, were evaluated.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective review of head and neck cancer patients who presented to the multidisciplinary tumour board (MTB) during the 12-month period from March 2020 to February 2021 and compared to patients who presented to the MTB during the prior, pre-pandemic 12-month period from February 2019 to March 2020: Patient demographic and clinical variables were compared: sex, age at diagnosis, distance from hospital, date of first visit, radiological diagnosis, pathology specimen, MTB meeting, and initiation of primary and adjuvant treatment.
Results: The number of patients who presented to the MTB increased by 22% (278 to 340) from the pre-pandemic to the pandemic period.
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a well-established causative factor in a subset of squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck (HNSCC). Although HPV can be detected in various anatomical subsites, HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is the most common HPV-related malignancy of the head and neck, and its worldwide incidence is constantly rising. Patients with OPSCC are generally younger, have less co-morbidities and generally have better prognosis due to different biological mechanisms of carcinogenesis.

Most patients with recurrent oral cancer are not eligible for salvage surgery. Among those who are candidates for surgical salvage, failure rates are high. Given the potential negative impact of salvage surgery on quality of life (QoL)-particularly in unsuccessful interventions-the decision to operate must be weighed carefully.
