Introduction: Pyodermatitis-pyostomatitis vegetans (PPV) is a rare inflammatory mucocutaneous dermatosis of unknown etiology. It is characterized by the appearance of vesicles, pustules, vegetating plaques, and erythematous lesions, often associated with underlying inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease.

Objective: To report a case of vegetative pyostomatitis in a patient with Crohn's disease, focusing on the diagnostic process and therapeutic approach.

This case report describes a rare, asymptomatic brown tumor in a patient with end-stage renal disease. The lesion was incidentally detected during a computed tomography (CT) scan of the paranasal sinuses, performed upon a dentist's recommendation to investigate maxillary sinusitis. CT imaging revealed an expansive osteolytic lesion with irregular margins and a ground-glass appearance involving the left side of the sphenoid and frontal sinuses.

Objective: To investigate, through immunohistochemistry, the interaction between epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the immune checkpoint proteins PD-1 and PD-L1 in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC).

Design: The EMT status was determined based on the immunostaining of E-cadherin and N-cadherin proteins. EMT status and the immunoexpression of PD-L1 and PD-1 were analyzed semiquantitatively in 61 cases of OTSCC, and the cases were categorized into low and high expression groups for association with clinicopathological variables and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates.

A 50-year-old male patient presented with a nodular lesion at the right base of the tongue. An incisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathological evaluation revealed an ill-defined multicystic papillary proliferation of mucin-producing cells. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for CK7 and negative for CK20, p40, p63, SOX10, SMA, and calponin.

Objective: To evaluate the performance of the virtual assistant "Syndromic Diseases and Orofacial Features" (SDOF), developed based on the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 model, in formulating diagnostic hypotheses and recommendations for syndromes with orofacial manifestations.

Study Design: Twenty-six anonymized, previously diagnosed clinical cases, including clinical features and images, were selected. The assistant was trained using scientific references and configured to generate diagnostic hypotheses and suggest complementary exams.

Objectives: The study aimed to develop and evaluate in vitro a varnish containing fluoride-doped glass ceramics capable of inhibiting oral microorganisms, releasing hydroxyapatite-forming ions, and ensuring biocompatibility.

Materials And Methods: For the production of the experimental varnish (VE), composed of hydrogenated rosin, 10% and 20% by weight of glass ceramics with composition S53P4 (CF0) and doped with F- ions (CF5 and CF10) were incorporated. The EVs were characterized by Rheology, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), FTIR, ion release (fluoride and calcium ions), cytotoxicity on VERO cells, and antimicrobial effect on S.

Small cell osteosarcoma (SCOS) is a rare variant of conventional osteosarcoma, characterized by tumor cells of small size and uniform morphology, which can lead to diagnostic confusion with other small cell tumors, requiring a detailed diagnostic approach. The manifestation in a child adds a degree of complexity, as the management of malignant tumours in paediatric patients requires specific considerations to minimize the long-term side effects of oncological treatment and preserve the structural and functional development of the orofacial region. This report concerns an 8-year-old female patient referred to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery outpatient clinic with progressive swelling in the right maxillofacial region, initially asymptomatic, but progressing to pain and difficulty chewing.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes the characteristics of oral reactions to injectable soft tissue fillers, focusing on 151 patients, predominantly females averaging 54.9 years old.
  • Most reactions occurred about 20.4 months after injection, often presenting as painless nodules in the lips, with silicone and polymethylmetacrylate being the most common fillers used.
  • Key findings showed differences in reaction patterns based on the type of filler and highlighted the importance for clinicians to recognize these potential reactions when assessing asymptomatic nodules in older female patients.

Introduction: Cleft lip and/or palate (CL+/-P) is a congenital malformation affecting the lip and palate, requiring long-term treatment due to potential associated complications. For this reason, it is important for the patient to be continuously monitored and followed for health promotion and prevention, as well as improving the quality of life. The aim of this scoping review protocol is to identify and map the available evidence regarding the application of digital resources and technologies in the monitoring and follow-up of patients with CL+/-P.

Article Synopsis
  • * A review of 55 clinical trials showed that 83.3% were conducted after 2015, mainly in the U.S., focusing on various FDA-approved drugs for HNC, including cetuximab and pembrolizumab.
  • * There is a need for new drugs specifically for HPV-associated OPC, as the molecular mechanisms and outcomes differ from HPV-negative cases; researchers have identified mutated genes in HPV-positive OPC that could be targeted for future drug development.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral lymphatic malformations are rare lesions, with only 17 cases identified out of 7554 oral lesions studied in a Brazilian oral pathology service from 2000 to 2021.
  • The average age of affected patients was 16.5 years, with the tongue being the most common site (76%), and the lesions often presented as reddish, nodular swellings, with 29% being asymptomatic.
  • The study found that clinical and histopathological diagnoses were consistent for most cases, and excisional biopsy was performed in 41% of the lesions.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are a heterogeneous group of malignancies which have shown exponential incidence in the last two decades especially due to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The HPV family comprises more than 100 types of viruses with HPV16 and HPV18 being the most prevalent strains in HNSCC. Literature data reveal that the mutation profile as well as the response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy are distinct among HPV+ versus HPV-negative tumors.
