A 49-year-old woman presented with abdominal distention and right leg numbness. Bone biopsy from a huge tumor in her pelvis revealed chondrosarcoma, and proton beam therapy was performed. Although there were no abnormalities at 6 months, dry cough, dyspnea and fever with elevated inflammation appeared at 9 months.

Background: Symptomatic hand osteoarthritis frequently affects perimenopausal women and is believed to be associated with estrogen deficiency. However, effective medical therapies for symptomatic relief remain limited.
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of menopausal hormone therapy and complementary and alternative medicine in treating symptomatic hand osteoarthritis in perimenopausal women.
The usefulness of spine stabilization for treating metastatic spinal tumors with tumor-induced instability has been reported. However, no reports have prospectively evaluated the effectiveness of adding posterior decompression to stabilization surgery for improving symptoms. This multicenter prospective study aimed to determine whether adding posterior decompression to spine stabilization surgery for metastatic spinal tumors affects postoperative outcomes and complications.

Background: Intraoperative fractures are a significant complication of bipolar hemiarthroplasty for hip fractures in older patients. Femoral geometry classified as Dorr C is associated with a high risk of intraoperative fractures when a cementless stem is used. However, the impact of the duration from injury to surgery on the risk of intraoperative fractures remains unclear.

However, occult hip fractures are often missed, leading to treatment delays. Dual-energy computed tomography allows visualization of bone marrow edema and bone contusions, which are challenging to detect using conventional computed tomography.

However, the extent to which individuals can restore their mobility after undergoing hip fracture surgery remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the effect of timely surgical management, defined as intervention within 48 hours of injury, on postoperative ambulatory function in patients with hip fractures.

However, these reports included conditions such as Down syndrome and Marfan syndrome, which involve both cardiac disease and scoliosis. The relationships between these factors and open chest surgery remain unclear.

Design: The bone mass in patients with CTA was measured using Hounsfield units from CT images. The mCTA was induced by transecting the rotator cuff, biceps brachii tendon, and superior half of the joint capsule in adult rat shoulders.
In general, ensuring safety is the top priority of a new modality. Although oncolytic virus armed with an immune stimulatory transgene (OVI) showed some promise, the strategic concept of simultaneously achieving maximum effectiveness and minimizing side effects has not been fully explored. We generated a variety of survivin-responsive "conditionally replicating adenoviruses that can target and treat cancer cells with multiple factors (m-CRAs)" (Surv.

While biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are considered beneficial for preventing osteoporosis and bone fracture, it is unclear whether bone loss is involved in the development of vertebral fracture, and few reports have examined the factors related to vertebral fracture in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients using bDMARDs. This study aims to identify factors influencing vertebral fracture in RA patients treated with bDMARDs. We retrospectively examined the records of 129 RA patients treated with bDMARDs for over 5 years.

Introduction: Studies describing the relationship between the hip and spine have reported that corrective spinal surgery for adult spinal deformity (ASD) affects the orientation of the acetabulum. However, the extent to which spinal correction in ASD affects acetabular anteversion in the standing position is unclear, especially after total hip arthroplasty, for which dislocation is a concern. The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in anterior acetabular coverage in the upright position due to extensive correction surgery for ASD.

Introduction: The incidence of hyponatremia after orthopedic surgery is high. Hyponatremia may prolong hospitalization and increase mortality, but few reports have identified risk factors for hyponatremia after spinal surgery. This study aims to determine the incidence and risk factors for hyponatremia after spinal surgery.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the limiting factors of T-motion through motion analysis of the humeral head and rotator cuff muscles using ultrasonography in college baseball players.
Methods: Thirteen college baseball players participated in this cross-sectional study.

Objectives: Early surgery is recommended for hip fractures in elderly patients. This study was performed to evaluate factors contributing to delayed surgery and associated outcomes in a secondary hospital in Japan with a rehabilitation centre.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 895 patients aged >50 years [median age, 86 (81-91) years] treated for hip fractures at our institution from 2016 to 2020.
Objective: Malignant soft tissue sarcoma (MSTS) is a rare disease, but is seen in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. Although the association of periodontal disease with various cancers occurring in the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and prostate, has been reported, the association between periodontal disease and MSTS remains unclear. This study investigated the association between periodontal disease and MSTS in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery.

Thus strategies to enhance structural healing are relevant. In rabbits, combining oral losartan (which has antifibrotic effects by downregulating transforming growth factor-β1) and bone marrow stimulation (BMS) of the greater tuberosity, showed improved rotator cuff repair pull-out strength and highly organized tendon matrix in a chronic injury model, whereas BMS alone did not improve the mechanical properties.

Gait disturbance and urinary dysfunction are also major symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Currently, the epidemiology of the complications of LSS in iNPH is unclear.

Here, we present a new physical examination, the elbow forward translation motion (T-motion) test for measuring the position of the elbow when both dorsal hands are placed on the iliac crest in a sitting position and the elbow is moving forward. We examined the relationships between T-motion and shoulder function to identify the significance of this test in clinical practice.

However, if the needle is inserted incorrectly into the body, various adverse events can occur and, in such cases, the needle should be removed. Acupuncture needles are very thin and fragile, making them difficult to detect and to confirm breakage or residual needle fragments during surgery.

Reconstruction surgery using a fibular strut autograft was performed in both patients, and spinal reconstruction and fusion were successfully maintained without bone resorption for at least 7 years.
Conclusion: This is the first report of reconstructive surgery using a fibular strut bone graft for lumbosacral deformity with destruction of the sacroiliac joint in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1).

Purpose: One of the major problems in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) is severe acetabular bone loss. The aim of our study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of revision THA using a Kerboull-type reinforcement device (KT plate) and allogeneic structural bone graft.
Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 48 hips that underwent revision THA using a KT plate and allogeneic structural bone graft between 2008 and 2016, with a median follow-up of 6.
Liver regeneration is an extraordinarily complex process involving a variety of factors; however, the role of chromatin protein in hepatocyte proliferation is largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the functional role of high-mobility group box 2 (HMGB2), a chromatin protein in liver regeneration using wild-type and HMGB2-knockout (KO) mice. Liver tissues were sampled after 70% partial hepatectomy (PHx), and analyzed by immunohistochemistry, western blotting and flow cytometry using various markers of cell proliferation.
