Background: The cold-shock domain protein YB-1 is overexpressed in pleural mesothelioma (PM) and was shown to contribute to increased cell migration and platinum resistance.

Methods: Phosphorylation of YB-1 at position serine 102 was analysed by immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and immunoblotting in PM tissue specimens and cell lines. Intracellular localisation experiments involved immunoblotting, transfection of fluorescent protein-tagged YB-1 and confocal imaging.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is now recognized as the most prevalent chronic liver disease worldwide, driven by the rise in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. The evolving nomenclature and understanding of MASLD necessitate updated insights into its pathophysiology, diagnostics, and internal medicine management. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases for articles published between 2018 and 2025.

Erectile dysfunction in men may result as a side effect of the use of serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as paroxetine. Enzymes like phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) and arginase are promising therapeutic targets for managing erectile dysfunction while creatinine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB) serves as a marker for coronary artery disease. To manage these conditions, it is necessary to seek options in medicinal herbs.

This study carried out a quantitative structure-activity relationship hazard assessment of the banned pesticides in Nigeria with a view of identifying the dangers posed by these pesticides. Structure-activity relationships (SARs) and quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs), which link a compound's chemical structure to its biological activity, can be used to create safer and more effective insecticides, prioritize chemicals for testing, and reduce the number of animal studies necessary throughout the regulatory process. The QSAR hazard assessment of the banned pesticides was carried out on the VEGA software.

Article Synopsis
  • Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are increasingly prominent health issues, especially among young adults, prompting a study on CVD risk and liver health in medical students.
  • The research involved 138 healthy medical university students aged 18-30 who underwent physical assessments, surveys, and laboratory tests, leading to risk analysis for CVD and liver disease through Framingham risk scores and FibroScan measurements.
  • Results indicated a low percentage of CVD risk among participants (1.5% to 17.6%) while 9.4% showed signs of liver fibrosis, with lifestyle factors like coffee and sugary drink consumption influencing liver health, as

Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Pakistan, where healthcare resources are limited. Early Invasive Strategy (EIS), typically involving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), has been shown to improve outcomes in AMI patients. However, the effectiveness of EIS in resource-limited settings, such as Pakistan, remains under-explored.

The demand for increasingly fine detail in optical lithography for semiconductors necessitates the use of lower-wavelength lithographic light. This drives the need for lenses in optical lithography steppers made of vacuum ultraviolet-transparent (VUV-transparent) materials. In this work, the density functional theory (DFT) study of potassium magnesium fluoride KMgF is presented.

Levosulpiride and omeprazole are co-prescribed for gastrointestinal disorders associated with depression and anxiety. Objective of the study was to develop a sensitive, robust and simple method for simultaneous analysis of levosulpiride and omeprazole in human plasma and applicability of the method in determination of pharmacokinetics drug-drug interaction. In the presented study, a reversed-phase HPLC-UV method was developed for the simultaneous determination of levosulpiride and omeprazole using pantoprazole as the internal standard.

Article Synopsis
  • Pleural mesothelioma (PM) is an aggressive type of cancer that grows in a unique tumor microenvironment (TME), but effective cell models for studying this environment are limited.
  • Researchers developed new cell models using mesothelial cells and mesothelioma-associated fibroblasts (Meso-CAFs) from patients, which included the introduction of the hTERT gene to enhance cell growth capabilities.
  • The study found that while these new hTERT-transduced models maintained key characteristics of primary cells, the conditioned media from both primary and transduced Meso-CAFs significantly stimulated PM cell growth, suggesting these models are effective for studying PM interactions in its TME.
