Macrovascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) are diseases of the peripheral and coronary arteries and the cerebrovascular system. Despite the availability of several conventional antidiabetic drugs, the macrovascular complications associated with DM remain a major health burden, partly because the focus of diabetes management has been glucocentric. Interestingly, phytochemicals, particularly flavonoids and other phenolics, were highly promising in the treatment of diabetes-associated macrovascular complications.

African trypanosomes evade host immune response through antigenic variation and utilize other immune modulatory mechanisms to survive in the immunologically hostile mammalian bloodstream. However, indigenous African chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) exhibits lower susceptibility to trypanosomes, suggesting unique resistance mechanisms; but the exact factor(s) of resistance remains elusive. This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the observed resistance of indigenous African chickens to T.

Introduction: Granulocyte colony stimulating factors (G-CSF), including filgrastim and pegfilgrastim, are associated with bone pain, potentially impacting treatment adherence. This study hypothesized that a 5-day regimen of filgrastim (5-day-FIL) would result in less bone pain than single-dose pegfilgrastim (PEG) in patients receiving chemotherapy for early breast cancer.

Methods: In this multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial, patients requiring prophylactic G-CSF during chemotherapy were randomized 1:1 to receive either 5-day FIL or PEG.

The rising demand for therapeutics, driven by aging populations and chronic diseases, challenges the pharmaceutical manufacturing of sustainable drug delivery systems. While development of microcarriers from natural sources such as plant or animal-sourced polymers and lipids show promise, the resource-intensive and complex processes involved limits their translatability and access. In this review, we discuss briefly the existing microcarriers fabricated from natural polymers and transition to recent efforts that have been devoted to exemplify pollen, traditionally regarded as an allergen, exhibits qualities that fit the criteria of a desirable microcarrier, and can be exploited to be valuable drug delivery assets with potential of encapsulating a wide spectrum of cargo and targeted conveyance.

Unlabelled: Dissimilatory sulfite reductase (DSR) plays a crucial role in the metabolism of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), which contribute to environmental hazards such as biocorrosion and sulfide pollution. The search for effective DSR inhibitors has been challenging due to the difficulty in culturing strict anaerobes. In this study, we employed molecular docking and 100 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to screen 248 microbially-derived compounds for their potential as DSR inhibitors.

Some of the industrial solid waste materials, despite having sizeable quantities of silica and alumina, do not meet the requirements of a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) as per ASTM C618. Conversely, these materials may well be classified as alternative supplementary cementitious materials (ASCM) in accordance with ASTM C1709. Even though they have the potential of enhancing the properties of concrete and promoting sustainability, these materials are often underutilized in construction.
