Quantitative mass spectrometry imaging (QMSI) is being applied for spatial quantification of drugs and metabolites using mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) tools. DESI-MSI is ideally suited to QMSI as a soft and ambient ionization technique. However, some challenging issues of QMSI include extraction efficiency, matrix effect, sensitivity, and specificity, which need to be addressed.

Microtubules (MTs) are dynamic cytoskeletal polymers essential for mediating fundamental cellular processes, including cell division, intracellular transport, and cell shape maintenance. Understanding the arrangement of tubulin heterodimers within MTs is key to their function. Using frequency modulation atomic force microscopy (FM-AFM) and simulations, we revealed the submolecular arrangement of α- and β-tubulin subunits on the inner MT surface.

While previous research has predominantly focused on its interactions with α-synuclein, this study investigates UBL3's role in Huntington's disease (HD). HD is characterized by movement disorders and cognitive impairments, with its pathogenesis linked to toxic, polyglutamine (polyQ)-expanded mutant huntingtin fragments (mHTT).

Cancer cells communicate within the tumor microenvironment (TME) through extracellular vesicles (EVs), which act as crucial messengers in intercellular communication, transporting biomolecules to facilitate cancer progression. Ubiquitin-like 3 (UBL3) facilitates protein sorting into small EVs as a post-translational modifier. However, the effect of UBL3 overexpression in EV-mediated protein secretion has not been investigated yet.

This study mainly focuses on imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant that affects endogenous metabolite concentrations. The aim was to use atmospheric pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (AP-MALDI)-MSI combined with different dimensionality reduction methods to examine the distribution and impact of imipramine on endogenous metabolites in the brains of treated wild-type mice.

So, the adsorption of pro-inflammatory cytokines by the hollow fiber of the dialysis membrane has been expected to modify the inflammatory dysregulation in ESKD patients. However, it remains to be determined in detail what molecules of fiber materials can preferably adsorb proteins from the circulating circuit.

Ubiquitin-like 3 (UBL3) is a membrane-anchored ubiquitin-fold protein and post-translational modifier. UBL3 promotes protein sorting into small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) and thereby mediates intercellular communication.

However, such drug distributions have not been well studied. In this study, we investigated potential differences in the distribution of imipramine and chloroquine, as well as their metabolites, between male and female kidneys.

In this study, we set up three groups of C56BL/6 male mice and conducted whole-body irradiation with 0 Gy, 10 Gy, and 20 Gy single doses. Kidney, lung, brain, and liver tissues were collected within 5 min of irradiation.

Society in eusocial insects is based on the reproductive division of labor, with a small number of reproductive individuals supported by a large number of nonreproductive individuals. Because inclusive fitness of all colony members depends on the survival and fertility of reproductive members, sterile members provide royals with special treatment. Here, we show that termite kings and queens each receive special food of a different composition from workers.

Recently, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) has gained attention for drug distribution studies due to its high sensitivity, label-free nature, and ability to distinguish between parent drugs, their metabolites, and endogenous molecules. Despite these advantages, achieving high spatial resolution in drug imaging is challenging.
