Lymphocytic Interstitial Pneumonia Presenting as an Enlarging Pulmonary Nodule in a 65-Year-Old Woman: A Case Report.

Lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia (LIP) is a rare, benign lymphoid interstitial lung disease that frequently masquerades as malignancy on imaging and even frozen‑section histology. We report the case of a 65‑year‑old Vietnamese woman who presented with chronic right‑sided chest pain and a nonproductive cough. Baseline high‑resolution computed tomography (HRCT) revealed a 28 × 20 mm irregular opacity in the right upper lobe with scattered bilateral micronodules, all of which proved refractory to empirical antibiotics.

Academic motivation in association with mental health and quality of life among medical and health science students: a survey in Vietnam.

Introduction: Academic motivation is crucial in education, it was also found to be associated with various health-relating factors, but it has yet to be well-applied in the admission process of most Vietnamese medical universities. This study aimed to describe students’ academic motivation and investigate the association between it and depression, anxiety, and quality of life at Hanoi Medical University.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on first and final year students of doctor and bachelor programs from October to November 2018 via a computer-based questionnaire.

The complex interplay of personal and external factors in medical students' specialty decision-making: A qualitative study.

Background: Medical students' specialty decisions are shaped by a complex interaction of personal characteristics, academic experiences, social influences, and broader contextual factors. In lower-middle-income countries, where Western medical curricula are adapted to local educational and cultural contexts, little is known about how students make sense of these influences in shaping their future professional roles. This study aimed to explore how students interpret and construct their specialty choices in a newly established hybrid medical curriculum in Vietnam.

Background: Specialty decision-making among medical students reflects a complex interplay of motivations, evolving perceptions, and experiences during medical training. This study explores how students' initial motivations, views on what makes a good doctor, and academic progression influence their specialty preferences.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major cause of cancer-related mortality, with diagnostic limitations of existing biomarkers such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). This study evaluates plasma Fibrinogen chain A mRNA (FGA mRNA), alone and combined with AFP, for improving HCC diagnosis. : A semi-nested RT-PCR assay was developed to quantify plasma FGA mRNA in 80 HCC patients and 74 controls (57 chronic liver disease [CLD] and 17 healthy donors [HDs]).

Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass with Reconstruction Clip Surgery Following Failed Flow Diverter Therapy for a Giant Internal Carotid Aneurysm: A Case Report.

Flow diverter (FD) is often the first-line treatment for giant internal carotid artery aneurysms, with a high rate of aneurysm occlusion. However, up to 10% of giant cerebral aneurysms increase in size after FD treatment. YPV O:Eu materials were synthesized a simple combustion method. Material characterization illustrated the formation of spherical particles with a tetragonal crystal structure and a uniform size of 20 nm, although aggregation was observed. Fluorescence spectroscopy was then employed to explore the optical characteristics, revealing key insights into the luminescent behavior of the as-prepared materials.

Temperature and time dependence on extraction of Molybdenum-99 hot atoms from neutron-irradiated β-molybdenum trioxide particles into water.

This study presents a novel perspective by examining the influence of temperature and heating time on the extraction of Mo into water, contributing to a better understanding of its extraction kinetics. β-MoO particles were synthesized thermal evaporation and subsequently characterized using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. These particles were then neutron-irradiated at the Kyoto University Research Reactor facility, after which the activity of the Mo in the particles was analyzed by a high-purity germanium semiconductor detector.

Generation of an Inducible Destabilized-Domain Cre Mouse Line to Target Disease Associated Microglia.

The function of microglia during progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) can be investigated using mouse models that enable genetic manipulation of microglial subpopulations in a temporal manner. We developed mouse lines that express either Cre recombinase (Cre) for constitutive targeting, or destabilized-domain Cre recombinase (DD-Cre) for inducible targeting from the Cst7 locus (Cst7 ) to specifically manipulate disease associated microglia (DAM) and crossed with Ai14 tdTomato cre-reporter line mice. Cst7 was found to target all brain resident myeloid cells, due to transient developmental expression of Cst7, but no expression was found in the inducible Cst7 mice.

: Primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) caused by is a rare and devastating infection of the central nervous system, often diagnosed late, due to its rapid progression and nonspecific symptoms. We report one of the youngest documented pediatric Vietnamese cases of PAM in a 10-month-old girl from the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The diagnosis was confirmed through multiplex real-time PCR (MPL-rPCR), microscopy, and sequencing.

A rare case of acute respiratory distress syndrome due to chlorine gas inhalation: Rapid progression with favorable ICU outcome.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to chlorine gas inhalation is a rare yet critical condition that can lead to severe respiratory failure if not managed promptly. This case report presents a 43-year-old male who developed ARDS after accidental exposure to chlorine gas during pool maintenance. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly, with symptoms progressing to acute pulmonary edema and severe hypoxemia, requiring immediate transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU).

In Children, -Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Antibody Encephalitis Incidence Exceeds That of Japanese Encephalitis in Vietnam.

Background: The recognition of autoimmune causes of encephalitis has led to epidemiological shifts in the worldwide characteristics of encephalitis. -methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibody encephalitis leads to well-established complex neuropsychiatric manifestations. In low- and middle-income countries, including Vietnam, its relative incidence, especially in children, is unknown and most neurologists currently consider infectious encephalitis prior to autoimmune etiologies.

Knowledge of its economic burden is essential for policymakers in prioritizing the development and implementation of interventions but remains limited. An observational study was prospectively conducted at a major children's hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 2020 to 2022.

Primary omental torsion with clinical masquerading as acute appendicitis and radiological key for diagnosis.

Omental torsion is a medical condition characterized by the twisting of the omentum along its longitudinal axis, which leads to compromised blood flow. This condition is rarely diagnosed before surgery and can present symptoms similar to other causes of acute surgical abdomen. This report details a case of primary omental torsion initially suspected to be acute appendicitis.

Endogenous retrovirus ERV-DC8 highly integrated in domestic cat populations is a replication-competent provirus.

Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are remnants of ancient retroviral infections in vertebrate genomes and are inherited by offspring. ERVs can produce pathogenic viruses through gene mutations or recombination. ERVs in domestic cats (ERV-DCs) generate feline leukemia virus subgroup D (FeLV-D) through viral recombination.

Expression of SUMO and NF-κB genes in hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma patients: An observational study.

Alterations in signaling pathways and modulation of cell metabolism are associated with the pathogenesis of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins and NF-κB family play major roles in various cellular processes. The current study aims to determine the expression profile of SUMO and NF-κB genes in HCC tumors and investigate their association with the clinical outcome of HCC.

Socio-behavioural factors influencing meat intake and meat reduction intention in Vietnam and Switzerland.

Meat consumption is declining in developed countries but increasing in emerging countries. This study, for the first time, compares the socio-behavioural factors influencing individuals' meat consumption level and meat reduction intention between Vietnam, an emerging economy and Switzerland, a developed country. Online consumer surveys were conducted in late 2022, yielding 552 usable replies from Switzerland and 592 from Vietnam for this study.

Epidural injection-related pneumorrhachis: A case report with cauda equina syndrome.

Pneumorrhachis (PR) is an uncommon condition characterized by the accumulation of air within the spinal canal. This finding may occur due to various causes, mostly after trauma and medical procedures. It can manifest with various features depending on the underlying cause, the location, and the extent of the air trapped.

Effective and targeted latency reversal in CD4 T cells from individuals on long term combined antiretroviral therapy initiated during chronic HIV-1 infection.

To date, an affordable, effective treatment for an HIV-1 cure remains only a concept with most "latency reversal" agents (LRAs) lacking specificity for the latent HIV-1 reservoir and failing in early clinical trials. We assessed HIV-1 latency reversal using a multivalent HIV-1-derived virus-like particle (HLP) to treat samples from 32 people living with HIV-1 (PLWH) in Uganda, US and Canada who initiated combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) during chronic infection. Even after 5-20 years on stable cART, HLP could target CD4 T cells harbouring latent HIV-1 reservoir resulting in 100-fold more HIV-1 release into culture supernatant than by common recall antigens, and 1000-fold more than by chemotherapeutic LRAs.

Results from 228 Patients with Hemifacial Spasm Undergoing Microvascular Decompression without Intraoperative Neuroelectrophysiology Monitoring.

Background: Intraoperative neuroelectrophysiology monitoring (IONM) has been used to decrease complications and to increase the successful rate of microvascular decompression (MVD) MVD for hemifacial spasm (HFS). Still, it is not available at limited resource centers. We report the outcome of patients undergoing MVD for HFS without using IONM.
