Unlabelled: Inadvertent displacement of tooth fragments into the maxillary sinus is a known complication of dental extraction that can be managed instantaneously or soon thereafter through conventional techniques like Caldwell-Luc, alveolar crestal, and lateral approaches. Objective: To ascertain the effect of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on routine (non-COVID) Otolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) turnover in a tertiary-care teaching institute, utilizing the cumulated, finalized dataset one year after the pandemic ceased to be a "public health emergency of international concern".

Methodology: In this retrospective analysis, annual routine turnover in the ORL-HNS categories (otology, rhinology/skull-base, head-neck/airway, emergency, miscellaneous) for the COVID-period (2020-21) were individually compared with pre-COVID (2017-19) data. Subsequently, categorical turnovers, along with the major surgeries in each category, were compared trimester-wise in the COVID-period.

To assess the effect of voice therapy on pitch in professional singers with faulty respiratory kinematics. In this prospective interventional study, professional singers with easy voice fatigability and inability to reach higher pitches, following appropriate selection criteria, were subjected to a 1-month structured voice therapy that transformed their predominant breathing pattern from thoracic to diaphragmatic-abdominal. Acoustic parameters (pitch range and its extreme values before/after therapy, and difference in pitch range) were analyzed using Praat software and compared using standard statistical methods (paired -test).

Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD1) is a pivotal enzyme in lipogenesis, which catalyzes the synthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) from saturated fatty acids, whose ablation downregulates lipid synthesis, preventing steatosis and obesity. Yet deletion of SCD1 promotes hepatic inflammation and endoplasmic reticulum stress, raising the question of whether hepatic SCD1 deficiency promotes further liver damage, including fibrosis. To delineate whether SCD1 deficiency predisposes the liver to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we employed in vivo SCD1 deficient global and liver-specific mouse models fed a high carbohydrate low-fat diet and in vitro established AML12 mouse cells.

A 24-year-old man with von Recklinghausen's disease presented with complaints of difficulty in swallowing for 6 months and change of voice for 3 months. He also had recent-onset difficulty in breathing. Telelaryngoscopy and subsequent contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed a well-defined, smooth submucosal mass in the oropharynx (attached to the posterior pharyngeal wall, superior to the level of left aryepiglottic fold), obscuring the ipsilateral pyriform fossa, and nearly blocking the pharyngeal lumen.

This clinical record revisits the classical and pathognomonic features of craniocervical tetanus in a 65-year-old farmer who presented with acute-onset trismus, multiple cranial nerve pareses (III, IX, and X), risus sardonicus, and spasm of the head-neck musculature. Closure of a circular tissue defect in the head-neck-face region is challenging because most transposition flaps are rhombic or triangular. For a tension-less closure, both rhombic transposition flap and the circular tissue defect need to be engineered maintaining strict geometric calculations. The present illustration demonstrates a modified rhombic transposition flap with greater freedom in rotation and mobility for closing a moderate-sized circular defect resulting from wide local excision of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in the mid-face.
