The validity of Apple Watch for measuring heart rate (HR) and oxygen saturation (SpO) in patients with cardiac diseases is still unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the accuracy of the Apple Watch in measuring HR and SpO in patients with cardiac diseases. A cross-sectional study recruited 260 cardiac patients, including 190 with regular heart rhythm and 70 with cardiac arrhythmia.

Impulsivity, often operationalized as delay discounting (DD) and as impulsive personality traits via the UPPS-P scales, is a key transdiagnostic construct across psychiatric disorders. Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have studied the genetic basis of impulsivity in adults, but it remains unclear how similar the genetic architecture of DD is in children. The present study conducted GWAS of DD and impulsivity traits in 5548 children (ages 9-10 years old) of genetically inferred European ancestry from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study.

Dual α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition by 1,2,4-triazole derivatives for diabetes treatment.

The development of effective antidiabetic agents remains a critical challenge in diabetes management. In this study, we introduce novel 1,2,4-triazole-based derivatives designed as dual inhibitors of α-amylase and α-glucosidase, key enzymes in carbohydrate metabolism. Molecular docking identified six promising candidates, with compounds 4 and 10 showing the highest potency.

Comparison between clopidogrel and ticagrelor in CYP2C19 loss-of-function alleles coronary artery disease and stroke patients: a meta-analysis.

Background: It is suggested that in patients with coronary artery diseases (CAD) and stroke, the use of ticagrelor and aspirin may perform better than clopidogrel and aspirin regarding the risk of thrombosis/embolism, including recurrent myocardial infarction (MI) and cardiovascular death, especially in those carrying CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LOF) alleles. Therefore, we conducted the present systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effect of clopidogrel and ticagrelor in CAD and stroke patients with CYP2C19 LOF alleles (poor metabolizers of clopidogrel).

Methods: We performed the current systematic review and meta-analysis by searching for all eligible publications on PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus from inception to November 2024.

Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted using medical records of patients with a body mass index (BMI) of ≥50 kg/m² who underwent either OAGB or LSG.

Results: A total of 92 patients were included in the analysis (53 in the LSG group and 39 in the OAGB).

A Prospective Approach for Screening of Potential Evolution of Aflatoxins in Fish and Fish Feed: Molecular and Afla Fluorometry Assays.

The transmission of aflatoxins from fish products to consumers primarily occurs through the contamination of fish flesh and feed by aflatoxigenic fungi. This study comprehensively examined the prevalence and extent of fungal contamination in the flesh of Oreochromis niloticus and Mugil cephalus, as well as in fish feed. Furthermore, it assessed the aflatoxin-producing potential of Aspergillus flavus through fluorometric and molecular assays, providing critical insights into the risks associated with mycotoxin contamination in aquaculture products.

Synthesis and Application of 4'--[(-alkyl)aminoethyl]thymidine Analogs for Optimizing Oligonucleotide Properties.

Gapmer-type antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) are an emerging class of therapeutic agents that directly inhibit pathogenic mRNA. In this study, three new 4'--substituted thymidine analogs were generated using a synthetic strategy recently established by our group, namely, 4'--(-ethyl) aminoethyl (4'-EAE-T), 4'--(-butyl) aminoethyl (4'-BAE-T), and 4'--(-octyl) aminoethyl (4'-OAE-T). Their properties were evaluated and compared with those of previously reported analogs, including 4'--aminoethyl (4'-AE-T) and 4'--(-methyl) aminoethyl (4'-MAE-T).
