Conventional drug delivery methods for chronic disease often suffer from low potency and poor patient compliance, while current advanced devices face limitations because of bulkiness, frequent implantation needs, inflammation risk, and lack of precise control. To overcome these challenges, we developed the SUSTAIN-a smart, ultra-long-lasting, sequentially triggerable, and artfully implantable nozzle system. The SUSTAIN integrates an osmotic pressure-triggered module, an airflow-generated T-pipe (AGT), and a drug infusion pump (DIP) for controlled subcutaneous drug release.

Hypoxia serves as a critical determinant in the advancement of various intractable pathological conditions including oncological disorders and hypovascular wounds, which may profoundly attenuate the efficacy of pharmacological interventions and substantially inhibit the physiological recovery processes. Consequently, in an effort to mitigate the inherent constraints of conventional methodologies (, exogenous oxygen delivery systems), a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)-based algae-integrated pliable and enveloped device (TAPED) operates as a wearable system to sustain oxygen generation. The TAPED system harnesses biomechanical energy generated through natural bodily movements to energize an integrated luminescent source, enabling controlled photosynthesis for sustained, on-demand oxygen production.

Article Synopsis
  • Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a serious postoperative issue that is hard to prevent and diagnose, leading to high rates of illness and death.
  • A new method called interior/exterior collaboration-enhanced intestinal anastomosis (IECIA) uses a hydrogel barrier on the inside and an external protective safeguard to significantly reduce the risk of leakage.
  • This system has shown promising results in studies, offering better recovery for gastrointestinal functions and being biocompatible and easy to use in surgical operations, making it a valuable option for clinical application.

Purpose: Chronic inflammation is one of the key mechanisms of depression. Wenyang-Tianjin-Jie Decoction (WTJD) is an effective antidepressant found in the course of diagnosis and treatment, but the mechanism of therapeutic effect is not clear. The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of WTJD in the kidney yang deficiency (KYD) type of depression rats and reveal its mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • Blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption is linked to several central nervous system diseases, highlighting the importance of understanding its underlying mechanisms.
  • The review discusses how mitochondrial oxidative stress in brain microvascular endothelial cells leads to various cellular dysfunctions, including issues with intercellular junctions and vascular inflammation.
  • It also explores potential therapies targeting mitochondrial health in endothelial cells to repair the BBB, offering new strategies for treating CNS disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify important nursing research priorities in pediatric critical care across Asia using a modified eDelphi survey method involving pediatric ICU nurses.
  • In the process, 146 nurses contributed 520 research topics, which were analyzed and categorized into seven key domains, with top priorities including early patient deterioration recognition and healthcare-associated infection prevention.
  • The findings highlight essential research areas such as end-of-life care and pain management, establishing a framework for future collaborative studies in pediatric nursing research.

Sepsis triggers liver dysfunction with high morbidity and mortality. Here, we elucidated the effect of anemoside B4 on sepsis in cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced mouse model and LPS-induced primary hepatocytes. Following CLP surgery, septic mice were intraperitoneally injected with anemoside B4 (50 or 100 mg/kg).

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) at "Shenmen"(HT7) and "Sanyinjiao"(SP6)on energy metabolism in paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of hypothalamus in insomnia rats, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of insomnia.

Methods: A total of 66 SD rats (half male and half female) were randomized into 3 groups:normal control, model and EA groups(=22 per group). The insomnia model was established by binding the rat for at least 4 h (step increase of 30 min per day), once daily for 15 days.

Background: Healthcare-acquired Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) infections in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), which have a high incidence, increase treatment costs and mortality, and seriously threaten the safety of critically ill children. It is essential to seek convenient and effective methods to control and prevent healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs).
