Background: Although insufficient sleep is a known risk factor for depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults, prior studies have mostly focused on baseline sleep duration. This study investigates the association between changes in sleep duration and the risk of incident depressive symptoms in this population.
Methods: This study utilized data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS), covering waves from 2011 to 2018.
Background: Smoking is a leading preventable cause of death, and its prevalence varies with social determinants of health (SDoH) such as education, age, and urban/rural residence. Health literacy (HL) may influence tobacco use, but its interplay with SDoH in China is unclear. This study examined associations between HL, key SDoH, and current smoking among residents aged 15-69 in Quanzhou, Fujian, China.

In this study, the inhibitory effects of earthworm coelomic fluid (ECF) on multidrug-resistant bacteria (MRB) were investigated during employing vermicomposting to treat excess sludge generated from wastewater treatment. The results demonstrated that the ECF was able to inhibit, even completely decompose the MRB.

Despite the potential risk of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) gusher, both surgeries were uneventful, and the patient demonstrated significant improvement in auditory thresholds and speech development. This case highlights that ECA should not be considered a contraindication for CI in NS patients.

Identifying key factors and differences in fall risks, along with developing predictive models, is essential for differentiated and precise interventions in China's urban and rural older populations.
Methods: The data of 5,876 older adults were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (Waves 2015 and 2018).

Importance: Perineural invasion (PNI) is an established prognostic factor in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), but the impact of its subcategories on survival is not fully understood. This study quantifies the number and diameter of PNI foci to assess their prognostic relevance in OSCC.
Objective: To evaluate the prognostic significance of PNI subcategories, specifically the number and diameter of PNI foci, as predictors of overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in OSCC patients.

Background: Different exercises have different effects upon physical fitness and cognitive domains. In this context, physical fitness behaviors have been identified as a contributing factor to cognitive decline in patients with very mild dementia. The present study aimed to further determine baseline senior fitness behaviors in patients with very mild dementia and possible factors related to rapid cognitive decline.

Identifying the crucial factors contributing to dysglycemia in urban-rural areas is essential for the implementation of targeted, precise interventions.
Methods: Data for 26,157 adults in Fujian Province, China, were collected using the Social Factors Special Survey Form through a multi-stage random sampling method, wherein 18 variables contributing to dysglycemia were analyzed with logistic regression and the random forest model.
Objectives: Meta-analysis was conducted to examine the effect of supplemental curcumin intake on skeletal muscle injury status and to propose an optimal intervention program.
Methods: In accordance with the procedures specified in the PRISMA statement for systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, the Review Manager 5.3 was used to analyze the results of creatine kinase (CK), muscle soreness, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and range of motion (ROM) as outcome indicators in the 349 subjects included in the 14 articles.
Background/purpose: The serpin peptidase inhibitor, clade E, member 2 (SERPINE2), is upregulated in breast cancer, prostate cancer, and urothelial carcinoma; however, limited information exists regarding its expression in oral cancer. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the association between SERPINE2 expression and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) outcomes.
Materials And Methods: mRNA and protein expression in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and OSCC were investigated using online databases and tissue-array analysis.
The accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) requires an understanding of its genomic alterations. Liquid biopsies, especially cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis, are a minimally invasive technique used for genomic profiling. We conducted comprehensive whole-exome sequencing (WES) of 50 paired OSCC cell-free plasma with whole blood samples using multiple mutation calling pipelines and filtering criteria.

Background Carotid artery stenosis (CAS) is a common cause of ischemic stroke, and the early detection of CAS may improve patient outcomes. Carotid Doppler ultrasound is commonly used to diagnose CAS. However, it is costly and may not be practical for regular screening practice.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenously expressed non-coding RNAs that regulate the post-transcriptional levels of targeted mRNAs. () is markedly downregulated in oral carcinoma tissues and plays an oncogenic role in oral carcinogenesis.

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that share components of their parent cells and are attractive in biotechnology and biomedical research as potential disease biomarkers as well as therapeutic agents. Crucial to realizing this potential is the ability to manufacture high-quality exosomes; however, unlike biologics such as proteins, exosomes lack standardized Good Manufacturing Practices for their processing and characterization. Furthermore, there is a lack of well-characterized reference exosome materials to aid in selection of methods for exosome isolation, purification, and analysis.

Materials And Methods: We include patients who underwent ablative surgery for oral cancer and reconstruction plate fixation from the year 2010 to 2016, separate them into two groups according to whether the hardware was exposed, compare risk factors including age, tumor site, staging, comorbidities, and previous treatment between the two groups. The treatment course and outcome were also recorded.

Background: Phlebosclerotic colitis (PC) is a rare form of nonthrombotic colonic ischemia. This retrospective study analyzed the clinical findings and temporal CT changes in 29 PC patients with long-term follow-up.
Methods: Twenty-nine patients with characteristic CT features of PC collected between 1997 and 2020 were stratified into the acute abdomen group (AA-group) (n = 10), chronic-progressive group (CP-group) (n = 14) and chronic-stable group (CS-group) (n = 5).
Understanding the genomic alterations in oral carcinogenesis remains crucial for the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). To unveil the mutational spectrum, in this study, we conducted whole-exome sequencing (WES), using six mutation calling pipelines and multiple filtering criteria applied to 50 paired OSCC samples. The tumor mutation burden extracted from the data set of somatic variations was significantly associated with age, tumor staging, and survival.

Ischemic stroke, caused by the blockage of intracranial arteries, accounts for approximately 80% of strokes. Among this proportion, acute ischemic stroke, usually caused by the sudden formation of blood clots, can cause fatal blockages in arteries.

Absorbable magnesium stents have become alternatives for treating restenosis owing to their better mechanical properties than those of bioabsorbable polymer stents. However, without modification, magnesium alloys cannot provide the proper degradation rate required to match the vascular reform speed. Gallic acid is a phenolic acid with attractive biological functions, including anti-inflammation, promotion of endothelial cell proliferation, and inhibition of smooth muscle cell growth.
