Spironolactone is an effective systemic treatment for acne in women and likely is an underutilized alternative to oral antibiotics. It is used off label for all types of acne and has shown effectiveness for both facial and truncal acne. We recommend a starting dose of 100 mg/d, as most patients can tolerate it and it has superior effectiveness to lower doses.

Objective: To compare the risk of hospitalization from noncutaneous infections, infection profiles, and the length of stay (LOS) of adult patients with HS and psoriasis treated with adalimumab.
Background: Isotretinoin is the first-line treatment for severe acne, but its effects on adolescent growth remain unclear.
Objective: To assess the effects of isotretinoin on final adult height and height velocity in adolescents treated for acne.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the Rochester Epidemiology Project to identify patients diagnosed with acne between 2005 and 2021 who initiated isotretinoin or oral antibiotics before age 15.
Background And Objectives: Ring 20 syndrome is a rare childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a postzygotic event leading to a structural change in the 20th chromosome. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) does not identify an abnormality in the most common mosaic form. Through a systematic review of the literature, we sought to identify clinically distinct characteristics that would trigger an order for a karyotype, which is the only definitive diagnostic test for this condition.

IgA Vasculitis (IgAV) is an immune-mediated condition with limited data on its long-term prognosis in adults. This study utilized the federated TriNetX network to evaluate the incidence of cardiac, renal, and vascular complications in adults diagnosed with IgAV. After propensity score matching, 12,506 patients with IgAV and 12,506 controls were analyzed.

Background: The Comprehensive Quality-of-Life Measure for Acne (CompAQ) is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among patients with acne. The measure is one of two acne-specific PROMs that had the strongest evidence to support its use in a recent COSMIN systematic review.
Objectives: To build on prior validation studies of CompAQ by confirming several of its known measurement properties in a cohort of patients with acne at three international sites; and, to establish the responsiveness of the measure during acne treatment.
Acne-associated scarring and dyspigmentation (ie, erythema, hyperpigmentation) are common sequelae with significant psychosocial impact, but little is known about what measures are most often used to assess these outcomes. This scoping review evaluates the use of current patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and clinician-reported outcome measures (ClinROMs) for acne scars and dyspigmentation. For scars, 7 PROMs and 18 ClinROMs were used, with most being unvalidated.
