Understanding the primary molecular events driving temperature-dependent sex reversal (TSR) has proven challenging, particularly in distinguishing these from secondary effects of sexual differentiation. The mechanisms translating temperature into a sex-determining signal in fish are still largely unknown. Through combined transcriptomic and genome-wide histone methylation analyses of gonads in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) exposed to normal and elevated temperatures, we observed significant upregulation of male-promoting genes (amh, dmrt1, gsdf) and suppression of female-promoting genes (wt1a and foxl3) at high temperature.

As an important aquaculture species and research model, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) has not yet been systematically studied for the isolation, culture, and in vitro gene manipulation techniques of primary cells from various tissues. This study aimed to explore methods for isolating primary cells from various tissues, as well as developing in vitro gene manipulation techniques in Nile tilapia. Four different Nile tilapia tissues were enzymatically digested and separated using trypsin or collagenase.

With the ongoing intensification of global warming, thermal stress poses significant challenges to tilapia aquaculture. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the cardiac response of tilapia to high temperatures remain largely unexplored. To address this knowledge gap, we investigated the effects of high-temperature stress on the transcriptomic landscape of the tilapia heart.

Mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic disorder have been associated to age-related subfertility, however, the precise molecular mechanism controlling the development of fertile oocytes in aging females remains elusive. Leptin plays an important role in the maintenance of energy homeostasis, as both excessive or insufficient levels can affect the body weight and fertility of mice. Here, we report that leptin A deficiency affects growth and shortens reproductive lifespan by reducing fertility in medaka (Oryzias latipes).

Investigating the principles of fish fat deposition and conducting related research are current focal points in fish nutrition. This study explores the endocrine regulation of LEAP2 and GHSR1a in zebrafish by constructing mutantmodels andexamining the effects of the endocrine factors LEAP2 and its receptor GHSR1a on zebrafish growth, feeding, and liver fat deposition. Compared to the wild type (WT), the mutation of LEAP2 results in increased feeding and decreased swimming in zebrafish.

Liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide 2 (LEAP2) is a blood-derived antimicrobial peptide expressed predominantly in the liver. Although LEAP2 has been reported to exert antimicrobial effects in various fish species, its antimicrobial mechanism is not entirely understood. Zebrafish is an intensively developing animal model for studying bacterial diseases.

Liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide 2 (LEAP2) is a small peptide, which is consisted of signal peptide, pro-peptide and the bioactive mature peptide. Mature LEAP2 is an antibacterial peptide with four highly conserved cysteines forming two intramolecular disulfide bonds. Chionodraco hamatus, an Antarctic notothenioid fish that lives in the coldest water, has white blood unlike most fish of the world.

Many scholars use various admixtures to adjust the properties of cement slurry, but admixtures are usually not environmentally friendly, and it is difficult to ensure that the properties after deployment meet engineering requirements. In this study, a variety of admixtures were obtained using the environmental protection method, and the optimal mixing ratio was analyzed by combining the entropy weight method and the Taguchi grey relational analysis method.
