Enavogliflozin is a novel sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) inhibitor approved by the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Clinical trials have demonstrated that enavogliflozin provides superior blood glucose-lowering effects and urinary glucose excretion (UGE) at a low dose of 0.3 mg compared with 10 mg of dapagliflozin.

Background: Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) is an age-associated condition characterized by a progressive decline in testosterone levels. It manifests as reduced libido, infertility, muscle loss, and cognitive impairment in middle-aged men. Although testosterone replacement therapy is effective, its associated side effects highlight the need for safer alternatives.

Objectives: Ethnic minority and migrant healthcare workers (HCWs) constitute 24% of the UK's National Health Service. Migration status, often overlooked in Human Resources records, is associated with their placement within the Agenda for Change (AfC) pay bands. Therefore, we analysed the association between ethnicity, migration status, and AfC pay bands using data from the UK-REACH cohort study.

Unlabelled: Our study shows that Bifidobacterium spp. supplementation reduces lung damage in acute lung injury by enhancing immune cell activity and restoring thrombospondin-1 levels, offering a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of ALI/ARDS.

Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are critical conditions characterized by severe lung inflammation and damage, often exacerbated by mechanical ventilation.

Objective: To investigate whether digital mammography (DM) with artificial intelligence-based computer-aided diagnosis (AI-CAD) predicts pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive and triple-negative (TN) breast cancers and compare performance with dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI.

Materials And Methods: In this single-center study, patients who underwent NAC and surgery for HER2-positive or TN cancers between September 2020 and August 2021 were retrospectively selected to develop prediction models for pCR after NAC. From a prospective ASLAN (Avoid axillary Sentinel Lymph node biopsy After Neoadjuvant chemotherapy) trial, HER2-positive and TN cancer patients who underwent NAC and surgery between December 2021 and July 2022 were prospectively selected for model validation.

The systemic spread of viruses in plants requires successful viral cell-to-cell movement through plasmodesmata (PD). Viral movement proteins (MPs) interact with cellular proteins to modify and utilize host transport routes. Broad bean wilt virus 2 (BBWV2) moves from cell to cell as a virion through the PD gated by VP37, the MP of BBWV2.

Background: Sepsis, characterized by a dysregulated host response to infection, often leads to organ dysfunction, and vascular endothelial dysfunction plays a central role. The erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular carcinoma (Eph)A2 receptor is associated with increased vascular permeability; however, the developmental endothelial locus-1 (Del-1), has contrasting effects on endothelial function. Hence, we examined their potential as biomarkers of sepsis.

: This study aimed to compare ultrasound (US) findings between automated and handheld breast ultrasound (ABUS and HHUS, respectively) in small breast cancers, based on the breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS) category. : We included 51 women (mean age: 52 years; range: 39-66 years) with breast cancer (invasive or DCIS), all of whom underwent both ABUS and HHUS. Patients with tumors measuring ≤1 cm on either modality were enrolled.

We report a case of a 49-year-old female with a history of HIV infection for 12 years. The patient had excellent compliance with antiretroviral medications, raltegravir 400 mg twice daily and truvada once daily for HIV. Over the years, she maintained an undetectable viral load with a CD4+ count >200 cells/μL.

Background/objectives: Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH), characterized by declining testosterone levels with age, negatively affects the health of men, causing physical, psychological, and sexual dysfunction. Conventional testosterone replacement therapies have side effects, which has led to interest in natural alternatives. We investigated the effects of a standardized fermented extract (FME) on oxidative stress-induced damage in TM3 Leydig and TM4 Sertoli cells.

Rationale And Objectives: This study aimed to identify the factors associated with malignant biopsy results for new lesions within one year after breast cancer surgery.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 192 lesions from 186 patients who underwent biopsy for newly developed breast lesions within one year of breast cancer surgery. All patients underwent breast ultrasound (US) at 6 months and breast US with mammography one year after surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the impact of adding magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to ultrasonography (US) on survival rates in male vs. female breast cancer patients before surgery.
  • It analyzed data from 328 patients, finding that men had significantly lower disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to women.
  • The results indicated that incorporating MRI with US did not improve survival outcomes in male patients, while tumor size was a key factor linked to worse DFS.

Background Breast nonmass lesions (NMLs) are observed at screening and diagnostic US. However, knowledge is limited on imaging features of NMLs at screening US. Purpose To identify features of NMLs at screening US that are suspicious for malignancy based on mammographic findings.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how to predict whether suspicious calcifications in breast cancer patients post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy contain residual cancer, aiming to help surgeons choose the right surgical methods using a prediction model based on mammography and MRI results.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 280 women and found that molecular subtype and high Ki-67 levels were significant factors in determining whether the calcifications were cancerous (ypCalc_ca) or not (ypCalc_0), leading to a predictive model with a strong accuracy in validation tests.
  • - The findings suggest that less invasive surgical options might be appropriate for specific cancer types, particularly in patients with certain hormone receptor and HER2 statuses alongside high Ki-67 levels.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of AI in detecting lung nodules through chest X-rays (CXR) in non-respiratory outpatient clinics, highlighting its growing importance in medical diagnostics.
  • Over a two-year period, the AI software detected lung nodules in 4.4% of CXR cases, leading to subsequent evaluations that identified lung cancers and other significant conditions in many patients.
  • The findings underscore the potential of AI to improve patient diagnosis and management by revealing incidental lung nodules that may have otherwise gone unnoticed, supporting its integration into routine medical practice.
