Introduction: Ambulatory multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) monitoring and high-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) are commonly performed to objectively assess pathologic reflux and understand the pathomechanism in individuals with reflux symptoms. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between novel MII-pH parameters and other metrics in patients experiencing refractory reflux symptoms.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with persistent reflux symptoms, who underwent both HRM and MII-pH assessments.

Objectives: Gastrointestinal cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease is a major contributor to mortality in immunocompromised patients. Few studies have discussed upper gastrointestinal CMV (UGICMV) disease in immunocompetent patients. We compared the clinical outcomes of UGI-CMV between immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients.

Background/aims: Colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) is a common cause of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients with CDB are at increased risk for recurrence. Here, we aimed to evaluate the clinical course of patients with CDB and identify risk factors for recurrent CDB (rCDB).

Colonic interposition is the main procedure used in esophageal reconstruction. We report a rare case of simultaneous treatment of an anastomotic site stricture and a neoplasm in the interpositioned colon. A 69-year-old female visited our outpatient clinic with symptoms of progressive dysphagia for 1 year.

Background/aims: Gastrointestinal (GI) bezoars are relatively rare diseases with clinical characteristics and treatment modalities that depend on the location of the bezoars. This study evaluated the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in patients with GI bezoars.

Methods: Seventy-five patients diagnosed with GI bezoars were enrolled in this study.

Background: Tailored therapy has been widely used for patients with () infection in South Korea. Herein, we evaluated the treatment outcomes of tailored clarithromycin-based triple therapy (TT) in patients infected with .

Methods: We enrolled 460 patients without A2142G and A2143G point mutations by dual priming oligonucleotide-based polymerase chain reaction who had taken TT and undergone the urease breath test to evaluate eradication in clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • * From 672 analyzed lesions, 14.4% showed growth over an average follow-up of 68 months, with factors like initial size, hemorrhagic spots, and specific ultrasound findings linked to increased size.
  • * Despite some lesions increasing in size, there were no related deaths during the follow-up, suggesting that most small UGI-SELs have a good prognosis, although close monitoring is advised for those with certain concerning features.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple drug hypersensitivity syndrome (MDHS) can lead to significant treatment delays and severe reactions, particularly in response to first-line anti-tuberculosis medications, with limited clinical data available.
  • A study of 27 patients revealed that 48% diagnosed with MDHS had reactions to combinations of drugs, with ethambutol and rifampin being the most frequent culprits.
  • All patients with MDHS were successfully treated with alternative drugs, highlighting the importance of assessing allergic reactions to these drugs even in cases of non-severe hypersensitivity.

Extrahepatic recurrence (EHR) after curative hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is associated with a poor prognosis. We investigated the features of EHR and identified its predictive factors. This retrospective study included 398 treatment-naive patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for HCC at two tertiary hospitals.
