Fenvalerate (FEN) is a typical pyrethroid pesticide known for its developmental toxicity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of gestational FEN exposure on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-like behaviors in weaning offspring. Pregnant mice were administered FEN daily via oral gavage throughout pregnancy.

Angucyclines/angucyclinones, a class of polyketides with diverse chemical structures, display various bioactivities including antibacterial or antifungal, anticancer, anti-neuroinflammatory, and anti-α-glucosidase activities. Marine and terrestrial microorganisms have made significant contributions to the discovery of bioactive angucyclines/angucyclinones. This review covers 283 bioactive angucyclines/angucyclinones discovered from 1965 to 2023, and the emphasis is on the biological origins, chemical structures, and biological activities of these interesting natural products.

Medical imaging increases the workload involved in writing reports. Given the lack of a standardized format for reports, reports are not easily used as communication tools. During medical team-patient communication, the descriptions in reports also need to be understood.

Signaling-dependent changes in protein phosphorylation are critical to enable coordination of transcription and metabolism during macrophage activation. However, the role of acetylation in signal transduction during macrophage activation remains obscure. Here, we identify the redox signaling regulator peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1) as a substrate of the lysine acetyltransferase MOF.

The developmental toxicity of fenvalerate, a representative pyrethroid insecticide, is well documented. The present study aimed to explore whether prenatal exposure to fenvalerate causes depression-like behavior in adulthood. Pregnant mice were orally administrated with either corn oil or fenvalerate (2 or 20 mg/kg) during pregnancy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to create a nomogram to predict prognosis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients after thrombectomy, improving their outcomes.
  • Data was collected from AIS patients treated at a hospital, where factors like NIHSS score, LDL cholesterol levels, and brain imaging metrics were analyzed for their impact on patient prognosis.
  • The developed nomogram demonstrated high accuracy (C-index of 0.967) and helps categorize patients into low and high-risk groups by scoring, assisting in better treatment decision-making.

Background: Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections are prevalent among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. However, compared to syphilis and HIV, the testing rate for chlamydia and gonorrhea remains low. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility for conducting rapid nucleic acid test for chlamydia and gonorrhea in MSM community-based organizations (CBO).

A three-dimensional metal-organic framework, namely, poly[[bis(μ-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylato)bis[μ-1,3,5-tris(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)benzene]tricopper(II)] hexahydrate], {[Cu(CHO)(CHN)]·6HO} or {[Cu(BTC)(TMIB)]·2HO}, (I) [TMIB is 1,3,5-tris(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)benzene and HBTC is benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid], has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Compound (I) features an unusual three-dimensional (3,4)-connected 2-nodal net with {8}{8} topology. Photocatalytic investigations indicate that (I) affords good photocatalytic capabilities in the degradation of methylene blue (MB).

A novel three-dimensional (3D) Cd coordination polymer, namely, poly[[μ-4,4'-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]](μ-5-methylisophthalato)cadmium(II)], [Cd(CHO)(CHN)] or [Cd(MIP)(4,4'-BMIBP)], (I), was synthesized by the hydrothermal method using 5-methylisophthalic acid (HMIP), 4,4'-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)-[1,1'-biphenyl] (4,4'-BMIBP) and Cd(NO)·6HO, and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Compound (I) exhibits a novel fivefold interpenetrating 3D diamondoid framework. Additionally, it shows fluorescence emission in the solid state and promising photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in water at room temperature.

Article Synopsis
  • Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) is linked to urogenital infections and reproductive issues but is not routinely tested in China; this study examines MG prevalence in patients from a Guangzhou STI clinic from Jan 2017 to May 2018.* -
  • Among 678 patients tested, MG was found in 7.2%, with a higher rate (14.2%) among symptomatic individuals; only one-third of those infected reported any symptoms.* -
  • The study suggests that routine testing for MG in symptomatic patients could be beneficial, and more research is needed to inform testing guidelines for this infection in China.*

While nuclear lamina abnormalities are hallmarks of human diseases, their interplay with epigenetic regulators and precise epigenetic landscape remain poorly understood. Here, we show that loss of the lysine acetyltransferase MOF or its associated NSL-complex members KANSL2 or KANSL3 leads to a stochastic accumulation of nuclear abnormalities with genomic instability patterns including chromothripsis. SILAC-based MOF and KANSL2 acetylomes identified lamin A/C as an acetylation target of MOF.

The present study was carried out to demonstrate novel use of pharmacokinetic approaches to characterize drug behaviors/movements in the vegetables with implications to food safety. The absorption, distribution, metabolism and most importantly, the elimination of tetracycline (TC) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in edible plants Brassica rapa chinensis and Ipomoea aquatica grown hydroponically were demonstrated and studied using non-compartmental pharmacokinetic analysis. The results revealed drug-dependent and vegetable-dependent pharmacokinetic differences and indicated that ephemeral vegetables could have high capacity accumulating antibiotics (up to 160 μg g-1 for TC and 38 μg g-1 for SMX) within hours.

The title Cd(II) coordination framework, [Cd(C15H8O5)(H2O)]n or [Cd(bpdc)(H2O)]n [H2bpdc is 2-(4-carboxybenzoyl)benzoic acid], has been prepared and characterized using IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Each Cd(II) centre is six-coordinated by two O atoms from one 2-(4-carboxylatobenzoyl)benzoate (bpdc(2-)) ligand in chelating mode, three O-donor atoms from three other bpdc(2-) anions and one O atom from a coordinated water molecule in an octahedral coordination environment. Two crystallographically equivalent Cd(II) cations are bridged by one O atom of the 2-carboxylate group of one bpdc(2-) ligand and by both O atoms of the 4-carboxylate group of a second bpdc(2-) ligand to form a binuclear [(Cd)2(O)(OCO)] secondary building unit.

Proteus mirabilis, a human pathogen that frequently causes urinary tract infections, is intrinsically highly resistant to cationic antimicrobial peptides, such as polymyxin B (PB). To explore the mechanisms underlying P. mirabilis resistance to PB, a mutant which displayed increased (> 160-fold) sensitivity to PB was identified by transposon mutagenesis.

The structures and energies of the noble gas containing anions FNgO- (Ng = He, Ar, and Kr) have been calculated by high-level ab initio calculations. The FNgO- anions were found to be deep-energy minima at the singlet electronic state, and their energies are significantly lower than those at the triplet state. High dissociation energy barriers to Ng + OF- were also predicted.
