Objectives: Remote medical care is becoming popular worldwide, but not as much has yet been done in plastic surgery. We provided online treatment related to plastic surgery using a 5G system. This study aimed to investigate the usefulness and future of online telemedicine in plastic surgery.

Optimizing radiation dose and image quality in neonatal mobile radiography.

Children are more susceptible to radiation exposure than adults. Therefore, determining an appropriate radiation dose requires balancing and minimizing radiation exposure while maintaining image quality (IQ) for accurate diagnosis. We evaluated the optimal radiation dose parameters for neonatal chest and abdominal mobile radiography by assessing entrance surface dose and IQ indices.

Plantar pressure and shear stress during gait in people with diabetic neuropathy.

Aims: Diabetic foot ulcers are a leading cause of lower extremity amputations, significantly affecting the quality of life. Excessive plantar surface pressure and shear stress are key factors in ulcer development and aggravation. This study aimed to determine the association of these forces with the progression of diabetic peripheral neuropathy to help in foot-ulcer treatment and prevention.

Total Contact Cast after Sole Free Flap Reconstruction for Early Ambulation.

 Free flap reconstruction can be performed in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). However, early walking training may increase the risk of wound dehiscence and prolong hospitalization. Total contact cast (TCC) treatment effectively addresses diabetic plantar ulcers by immobilizing the foot and distributing weight away from the ulcer area.

Specific Calcium Signal Responses in Human Keloid-Derived Fibroblasts During Cyclical Stretching: Basic Research.

Background: Keloids most commonly develop in the regions where the skin is constantly stretched. Although some keloid-derived fibroblasts exhibit higher single calcium spikes than normal dermal fibroblasts during short-time cyclical stretching, the calcium signal responses to long-time stretching remain unclear.

Methods: This study compared the intracellular Ca dynamics induced by cyclical stretching stimuli between the control group (normal dermal fibroblasts) and the keloid group (keloid-derived fibroblasts).

Functional outcomes of reconstructive flap surgery for soft tissue sarcoma: Long-term outcomes of functional restoration using innervated muscle transplantation.

Functional outcomes associated with prognostic factors and innervated muscle transplantation after wide soft tissue sarcoma resection remain unclear. We retrospectively examined the functional outcomes of reconstructive flap surgery for soft tissue sarcoma. Twenty patients underwent innervated muscle transplantation with pedicled or free flaps for functional reconstruction of resected muscles.

"KAIZEN" method realizing implementation of deep-learning models for COVID-19 CT diagnosis in real world hospitals.

Numerous COVID-19 diagnostic imaging Artificial Intelligence (AI) studies exist. However, none of their models were of potential clinical use, primarily owing to methodological defects and the lack of implementation considerations for inference. In this study, all development processes of the deep-learning models are performed based on strict criteria of the "KAIZEN checklist", which is proposed based on previous AI development guidelines to overcome the deficiencies mentioned above.

Gut microbial stability in older Japanese populations: insights from the Mykinso cohort.

Gut microbiota imbalance plays an important role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Here, we determined microbe-microbe interactions and gut microbiome stability in a Japanese population with varying body mass indices (BMIs) and enterotypes. Using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, we analyzed gut microbial data from fecal samples obtained from 3,365 older Japanese individuals.

Effect of joint limitation and balance control on gait changes in diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Aims: This study analyzed the gait patterns of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) patients and changes in the center of mass sway to prevent the formation and recurrence of foot ulcers.

Methods: Forty-two subjects were divided into the diabetes mellitus (DM), DPN, and diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) groups. We measured the range of motion (ROM) of the lower limb joints in the resting position and the center of mass sway in the standing position.

Macrodystrophia lipomatosa is a rare, congenital, non-hereditary form of localized gigantism characterized by abnormal fibroadipose tissue proliferation. Here, we report a case of a 39-year-old male with macrodystrophia lipomatosa of the whole left extremity with refractory foot ulcer. Imaging showed fibroadipose tissue proliferation and severe giant deformities of the second and third toes.

In this study, 7 cases of canine ovarian papillary adenocarcinoma, including 3 with ascites and pleural effusion, were immunohistochemically examined.

Effects of Polymorphisms in the Serotonin Transporter Promoter-Linked Polymorphic Region on Postthoracotomy Pain Severity.

Purpose: Serotonin (5-HT) is highly associated with pain modulation. The human 5-HT transporter (5-HTT) gene (SLC6A4) features several polymorphisms in its promoter region (5-HTTLPR) that affect the 5-HTT expression. Aim: To investigate the clinical factors and factors that affect the decisions regarding storage of cryopreserved embryos obtained using assisted reproductive technology.

Methods: Clinical characteristics affecting the decisions regarding cryopreserved embryos were analyzed in 5724 Japanese couples who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intra-cytoplasmic sperm insemination (ICSI) and embryo transfer over 4 years since April 2015 at our clinic. Statistical analysis was carried out using JMP software.

Effects of sevoflurane and desflurane on the nociceptive responses of substantia gelatinosa neurons in the rat spinal cord dorsal horn: An in vivo patch-clamp analysis.

Background: Volatile anesthetics suppress noxiously evoked activity in the spinal dorsal horn, which could contribute in part to analgesia, immobility. Modulation of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic transmission in substantia gelatinosa neurons could lead to the suppression of dorsal horn activity; however, this phenomenon has not yet been investigated fully.

Methods: In urethane-anesthetized rats, extracellular activity of dorsal horn neurons (action potentials) and excitatory/inhibitory postsynaptic currents in substantia gelatinosa neurons were recorded using extracellular and in vivo patch-clamp techniques, respectively, to assess the spontaneous and the noxious-evoked activity.
