Background: Obesity affects over one billion people worldwide and is associated with ocular complications, yet comparative effects of newer anti-obesity medications on eye health remain poorly understood. We examine ocular health outcomes among individuals with obesity receiving Tirzepatide, Semaglutide, Phentermine/Topiramate, Naltrexone/Bupropion, or Phentermine monotherapy.

Objective:  To determine (1) whether the tibial plateau angle (TPA) in dogs with Salter-Harris type 1 (SH-1) or type 2 (SH-2) fractures of the proximal tibial physis significantly decreases in the time between diagnosis and reevaluation following surgical repair and (2) whether the method of surgical repair influences the change in TPA over time.

Study Design:  This study was a retrospective study. Medical records from 2017 to 2022 were reviewed to identify dogs with SH-1 or SH-2 fractures of the proximal tibial physis that had undergone surgical repair with Kirschner wires (K-wires), with or without a tibial tuberosity tension band.

The COVID-19 infection fatality rate (IFR) is the proportion of individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 who subsequently die. As COVID-19 disproportionately affects older individuals, age-specific IFR estimates are imperative to facilitate comparisons of the impact of COVID-19 between locations and prioritize distribution of scarce resources. However, there lacks a coherent method to synthesize available data to create estimates of IFR and seroprevalence that vary continuously with age and adequately reflect uncertainties inherent in the underlying data.

Clozapine treatment for schizophrenia is typically long-term and is associated with a high rate of diabetes. Mental health and diabetes specialist teams at a local hospital in Australia have undertaken a series of joint specialist case conferences (JSCCs) where the diabetes team works with the psychiatry team to improve diabetes management. In this retrospective cohort study conducted between 2013 and 2018, we found that glycemic control in clozapine clinics linked with JSCCs was improved significantly compared with that in the non-JSCC clinics.

We estimated the degree to which language used in the high-profile medical/public health/epidemiology literature implied causality using language linking exposures to outcomes and action recommendations; examined disconnects between language and recommendations; identified the most common linking phrases; and estimated how strongly linking phrases imply causality. We searched for and screened 1,170 articles from 18 high-profile journals (65 per journal) published from 2010-2019. Based on written framing and systematic guidance, 3 reviewers rated the degree of causality implied in abstracts and full text for exposure/outcome linking language and action recommendations.

Background: Multiple vaccines against Covid-19 have passed through phase-3 trials; however, concerns have been raised about alleged excessive similarity of efficacy across age groups for the Sputnik V vaccine.

Study Question: How likely are the observed efficacies for all age subgroups to fall within the range of by-age efficacies claimed for the AstraZeneca, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer, and Sputnik V vaccines, assuming that there is no effect of age on efficacy?

Study Design: We performed a simulation study using R of 1000 and then 50,000 simulated trials for each vaccine, with random allocation to each arm but fixed enrollment numbers by age group. We used study-wide efficacy and infection rate for all age groups.
