Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a significant postoperative complication in instrumented lumbar spine surgery, and the selection and duration of appropriate prophylactic antibiotics are key to their prevention. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of various prophylactic antibiotics, primarily cefazolin and clindamycin, as well as the role of the duration of antibiotic prophylaxis in the development of SSI in instrumented lumbar spine surgeries through retrospective analysis. We performed a retrospective analysis of data from 915 patients who underwent instrumented lumbar spine surgery between 2016 and 2024 in a university center database.

Early detection through non-invasive methods is critical for improving patient outcomes. This study investigates the association between the presence and relative abundance of Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) in saliva and CRC, evaluating its potential as a non-invasive biomarker.

Methods: A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Scopus, and the Web of Science for studies published up to October 20, 2022.
Background/objectives: Glioblastoma IDH-wildtype CNS WHO grade 4 and astrocytoma IDH-mutant WHO grade 4 (together, high-grade gliomas: HGGs) are the most prevalent malignant brain tumors, carrying a poor prognosis despite multimodal treatment. Surgical site infections (SSIs) represent a relative frequent postoperative complication in HGG patients. Despite multimodal treatment protocols combining surgery, radiotherapy, and temozolomide chemotherapy, HGGs remain associated with a dismal prognosis, underscoring the need to evaluate how SSIs impact disease progression and survival outcomes.

Background: Accurately replicating the emergence profile (EP) of conditioned soft tissue is pivotal for the success of implant-supported restorations. In the field of digital technology, various methods have emerged to capture EP. This review aims to critically assess current digital methodologies for capturing peri-implant EP.

In current protocols, besides surgical resection and chemotherapy, radiotherapy is required to ensure optimal survival. Our aim was to determine which of the two major irradiation options, proton (PT) or photon (XRT), was the least harmful yet effective for children with brain tumors.

The establishment of an EVD is one of the most commonly performed neurosurgical procedures to treat intracranial pressure in patients. Nevertheless, infections are very frequent complications.

Study Selection: The study protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42022374972).
Background And Objectives: Antibiotic-impregnated shunts seem to be beneficial in preventing bacterial infections and decreasing mortality by effectively inhibiting microbial growth in the shunt system and reducing the risk of shunt-associated infections. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic-impregnated shunt catheters (AISC) in reducing the incidence of bacterial shunt infection in patients with hydrocephalus.
Methods: The protocol was registered on PROSPERO.
Objective: The study answers the PECO question: "In adults with dental implants (P), do subjects suffering from type-2 diabetes or prediabetes (E) have worse peri-implant conditions (O) than subjects without type-2 diabetes and prediabetes (C)?". Prediabetes (5.7-6.

Objective: To evaluate the role of maternal age in the incidence of NCAs and to pinpoint age groups at higher risk to refine screening protocols.
Purpose: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of native magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) regarding different ligamentous lesions of the wrist and to analyze the influence of technical characteristics, such as field strength, application of fat saturation, 3-dimensional sequences, and wrist coils.
Methods: A systematic search was performed using MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases. Studies that were published before February 12, 2024, were included.
Background: An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a risk factor for early osteoarthritis (OA) onset. Generally, ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is associated with better outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effect of operative versus nonoperative treatment for preventing premature knee OA in isolated ACL tears while achieving good functional outcomes.

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed until October 25, 2021, in 3 databases (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, MEDLINE). Eligible studies compared the efficacy of steroid, hyaluronic acid (HA), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), the combination of HA and PRP (HA + PRP), and adipose-derived regenerative cells in RC tears.

Background: The increasing number of total ankle arthroplasties (TAAs) has led to growing evidence on the risk factors for complications after surgery. However, the role of obesity in this patient group has been the subject of much debate. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to investigate the evidence for untoward effects of obesity following TAA.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the location (supratentorial or infratentorial) of brain tumors and the development of depression and anxiety in childhood cancer survivors. Understanding the risk factors for the development of depression and anxiety disordersin these patients is crucial for early diagnosis and successful treatment.
Methods: The meta-analysis included articles that listed patients diagnosed with an intracranial tumor before the age of 18 years, provided the location of the tumor, had exact data on the prevalence of anxiety and depression, or measured these disorders using different assessment tools.
Knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of phospholipids, such as phase transition temperatures (Tc), is of great importance in order to reveal the functionalities of biological and artificial membranes. Our research group developed an oscillatory rheological method for the simple and rapid determination of phase transition temperatures (Tc). The phospholipids constructing the membranes undergo conformational changes at their Tc, which cause alterations of viscoelastic properties of the molecules.

Objective: The role of maternal age in the development of non-chromosomal congenital anomalies (NCAs) is under debate. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to identify the age groups at risk for NCAs. The secondary aim was to perform a detailed analysis of the relative frequency of various anomalies.
