Background: Following the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, an estimated 8,174,189 refugees have fled (April 2023). Refugee status leads to a higher prevalence of mental illness, which may also arise or be worsened by post-migration stressors. Although a growing literature on the social determinants of mental health, little is known on the Ukrainian refugee population.

Background: Establishing proximity care pathways, including the digitalization of healthcare, is valuable for sustainable management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Patient-Centered Care (PCC) promotion. Nonetheless, current in vitro protocols primarily assess structural alterations induced by drugs, whereas gastrointestinal adverse events can often stem from functional disturbances.

Nursing homes (NHs) are crucial for de-hospitalization and addressing the needs of non-self-sufficient individuals with complex health issues. This study investigates the patient safety culture (PSC) in NHs within a northern Italian region, focusing on factor influencing overall safety perceptions and their contributions to subjective judgements of safety. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 25 NHs in the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Immunogenicity against intravitreally administered brolucizumab has been previously described and associated with cases of severe intraocular inflammation, including retinal vasculitis/retinal vascular occlusion (RV/RO). The presence of antidrug antibodies (ADAs) in these patients led to the initial hypothesis that immune complexes could be key mediators. Although the formation of ADAs and immune complexes may be a prerequisite, other factors likely contribute to some patients having RV/RO, whereas the vast majority do not.

Methods: Data were collected from the hospital health surveillance program on HCWs at the University Hospital of Verona between 29/02/2020 and 14/04/2021.

Background: Whether sex can influence the clinical response to biological treatment in patients with severe asthma has not been fully addressed.

Aims And Methods: The aim of this study was to investigate in patients with severe asthma undergoing biological treatment the individual evolution of lung function measurements and patient-reported asthma control scores over a 12-month follow-up period, in relation to patients' sex, in different age ranges. Second, the change in the administered dose of oral corticosteroids (OCS) before and after 12 months of treatment was investigated.

COVID-19: opinions and behavior of Italian general population during the first epidemic phase.

Background And Aim: On January 9, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that Chinese health authorities had identified a new coronavirus strain never before isolated in humans, the 2019-nCoV later redefined SARS-CoV-2, that still today represent a public health problem. The present survey started on 10 February 2020 with the aim of a) assessing the risk perception in healthcare workers and young students, following the evolution of attitudes, perception and knowledge over time, b) provide useful information to the general population during survey.

Results: A study sample consisting of 4116 Italian individuals of both sexes was enrolled.

Our study aimed to assess latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) prevalence, screening uptake, adherence to preventive treatment, and their predictors in a large cohort of asylum seekers. We retrospectively analysed data of migrants screened in 2015-2017 at the Migrant's Service in Verona, Italy. Sequential interferon-gamma-release-assay (IGRA) was performed to confirm only tuberculin-skin-test (TST) results ranking from 5 to 14 mm.

Improving the culture of safety among healthcare workers: Integration of different instruments to gain major insights and drive effective changes.

The Safety Attitude Questionnaire (SAQ) and Manchester Patient Safety Framework (MaPSaF) are known as effective tools to assess patient safety culture and climate and develop targeted strategies. However, they are seldom applied in an integrated way. The aim of this study was to conduct an implementation project through a novel use of both instruments to gain unique insights.

Drug-induced phospholipidosis confounds drug repurposing for SARS-CoV-2.

Repurposing drugs as treatments for COVID-19, the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has drawn much attention. Beginning with sigma receptor ligands and expanding to other drugs from screening in the field, we became concerned that phospholipidosis was a shared mechanism underlying the antiviral activity of many repurposed drugs. For all of the 23 cationic amphiphilic drugs we tested, including hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, amiodarone, and four others already in clinical trials, phospholipidosis was monotonically correlated with antiviral efficacy.
