Background: Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) are movement behaviors that have been associated with mental health. Evidence suggests that replacing SB with PA may influence mental disorders. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of replacing time spent in SB with moderate-intensity PA (MPA) and vigorous-intensity (VPA) on the symptoms of anxiety and depression among college students.

Objective: To assess the methodological pathway for developing and validating Instructive for the Obesity Management in the Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS), focusing on food and nutrition actions, based on the adaptation of the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population.

Methods: The development of the Instructive of Collective Approach for the Obesity Management in the SUS included an evaluation of the proposal summary during an in-person expert workshop, and the analysis of the first draft in an in-person validation workshop. In 2018 and 2019, a dynamic carousel was employed during the workshops to record the perceptions of experts from management, academy, and SUS health services.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have had an impact on the mental health of university students and, consequently, led to the initiation on psychotropic medications or an increase on its use. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of the use of psychotropic medications among university students and evaluate the association of the use of such medicine with students who belong to minority groups. This is a cross-sectional study, in which all students enrolled in undergraduate courses at eight Brazilian public universities were invited to answer an online self-administered questionnaire.

Chagas disease (ChD) remains a significant public health concern in the Americas, with challenges to accurately assessing its mortality burden due to under-reporting and misclassification. This study aimed to analyze mortality patterns of two cohorts of individuals with ChD-one comprising asymptomatic individuals with positive serology (REDS) and another with patients showing Chagas cardiomyopathy (SaMi-Trop)-to propose a method for estimating the potential under-registration of Chagas-related deaths and to find the factors influencing the identification of ChD as the underlying cause of death. We carried out a retrospective analysis of mortality data from these cohorts together with data on the Brazilian Mortality Information System.

Background: Chagas disease (CD) is neglected that affects vulnerable individuals, whose majority has low ability to understand health information.

Objectives: To assess health literacy and its association with sociodemographic, clinical, and quality of life (QoL) characteristics.

Design And Setting: A cross-sectional study the participants with Chagas disease (ChD) were identified through serological diagnosis during blood donation, while those without the disease were seronegative blood donors.

Article Synopsis
  • Resilience is essential for students' mental health and helps them adapt to academic challenges, but there's limited understanding of how it varies among students in different fields of study in Brazil.
  • A multi-center study surveyed 8,650 undergraduate students across eight institutions, using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale to measure resilience and various demographic, economic, and academic factors as independent variables.
  • Findings indicated that lower resilience was linked to factors like being female, having low family income, and being from specific academic backgrounds, with an average resilience score of 19.86 out of a possible higher score.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of replacing time spent in sedentary behavior (SB) with moderate to vigorous physical activity on sleep quality in young adults.

Methods: Multicenter cross-sectional study, carried out with students enrolled in undergraduate courses at universities in Brazil. Sleep quality was assessed using a question of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-brief) and classified as good or poor sleep quality.

Background: Chagas Disease (CD) can cause Chagas cardiomyopathy. The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) also affects the cardiovascular system and may worsen Chagas cardiomyopathy. However, the cardiac evolution of patients with CD infected by COVID-19 is not known.

Background: Movement behaviours, such as sedentary behavior (SB) and physical inactivity, have become a public health issue due to their implications for physical and mental health. The literature indicates that the university environment influences the movement behaviors of university students, and the strategies adopted during the pandemic may have favored a decrease in the practice of physical activity and an increase in the time dedicated to SB in this population. We aimed to evaluate the association of SB and moderate to vigorous leisure-time physical activity (MVPA) with presence of symptoms of mental disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Tele-cardiology tools can enhance risk assessment for heart diseases, particularly through tele-electrocardiography (ECG) in primary care settings.
  • A study evaluated the predictive accuracy of tele-ECG for identifying abnormalities in echocardiograms among patients, involving 1,411 participants.
  • Results showed that major ECG abnormalities significantly increased the likelihood (2.4 times) of major heart disease, regardless of age, sex, and clinical history factors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare the quality of life (QOL) and mental health symptoms (depression, anxiety, and stress) among healthcare students before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • - Results showed significant increases in severe depression, moderate anxiety, and moderate stress among students during the pandemic, along with a decline in QOL, especially in social relationships.
  • - The findings indicate that healthcare students experienced a notable decline in both mental health and quality of life due to the pandemic.

The aims of this study were to estimate the prevalence of gastrointestinal manifestations among individuals with positive serology for Chagas disease (ChD) and to describe the clinical gastrointestinal manifestations of the disease. A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted based on the criteria and recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. The PubMed, Scopus, Virtual Health Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases were used to search for evidence.

Numerous tests employed to predict cardiac and functional status are expensive and not widely accessible for a considerable number of patients, particularly those diagnosed with Chagas disease (CD) residing in remote and endemic regions. To date, there is no knowledge of studies that have validated instruments that address functionality in an expanded way, including the biopsychosocial factors in patients with CD. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.

Article Synopsis
  • - Chronic Chagas Cardiomyopathy (CCC) develops years after parasitic infection and is a major cause of heart failure in Latin America, yet only a small percentage of infected individuals develop the disease.
  • - A genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified a new susceptibility locus (rs34238187) linked to CCC in Brazilian populations, with significant associations to various immune-related traits.
  • - The findings suggest that this genetic locus plays a role in modifying the immune response to the T. cruzi parasite, highlighting the need for further research into its functional character and impact on CCC risk.
