Double-J stenting during TURBT increases risk of metachronous upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

Objective: The potential impact of double-J (DJ) stenting during transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) on the occurrence of metachronous upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) remains a subject of debate. This study investigates the effect of DJ stenting during TURBT for bladder cancer (BC) on the incidence of metachronous UTUC.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data from patients who underwent TURBT at our institution between September 2013 and September 2023.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and comfort of ureteral stents with extraction strings during modified split-leg prone percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).

Methods: A prospective, single-centre study was conducted on 100 patients undergoing PCNL for unilateral upper urinary tract stones from April to August 2024. Patients were randomized into two groups: 50 with extraction-string stents and 50 without.

Objective: To compare intrarenal pressure (IRP) and irrigation flow by varying suspended water heights and hand-held pressure pumping during flexible ureteroscopy using an in vitro 3D printed kidney model.

Methods: A 3D-printed silicone model was used to simulate the kidney. The ureteral access sheath(UAS) was connected to the kidney model and positioned at the ureteropelvic junction.

Comprehensive molecular characterization of collecting duct carcinoma for therapeutic vulnerability.

Collecting duct carcinoma (CDC) is an aggressive rare subtype of kidney cancer with unmet clinical needs. Little is known about its underlying molecular alterations and etiology, primarily due to its rarity, and lack of preclinical models. This study aims to comprehensively characterize molecular alterations in CDC and identify its therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Here, we observed that renal fibrosis in humans was associated with increased ILC3s in the kidneys and blood. In mice, we showed that CXCR6 ILC3s rapidly migrated from the intestinal mucosa and accumulated in the kidney via CXCL16 released from the injured tubules.

Group 3 Innate Lymphoid Cells Exacerbate Lupus Nephritis by Promoting B Cell Activation in Kidney Ectopic Lymphoid Structures.

Group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) represent a new population in immune regulation, yet their role in lupus nephritis (LN) remains elusive. In the present work, systemic increases in ILC3s, particularly in the kidney, are observed to correlate strongly with disease severity in both human and murine LN. Using MRL/lpr lupus mice and a nephrotoxic serum-induced LN model, this study demonstrates that ILC3s accumulated in the kidney migrate predominantly from the intestine.

A retrospective study using machine learning to develop predictive model to identify urinary infection stones in vivo.

Preoperative diagnosis of urinary infection stones is difficult, and accurate detection of stone composition can only be performed ex vivo. To provide guidance for better perioperative management and postoperative prevention of infection stones, we developed a machine learning model for preoperative identification of infection stones in vivo. The clinical data of patients with urolithiasis who underwent surgery in our hospital from January 2011 to December 2015 and January 2017 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

Vascular air embolism during percutaneous nephrolithotomy without pneumopyelogram: a case report of successful rescue.

Vascular air embolism (VAE) is a rare complication of percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Paradoxical air embolization resulting from VAE may be more likely to occur in patients with an atrial-septal defect, such as patent foramen ovale. Here, the case of a female patient with VAE that occurred during percutaneous nephrolithotomy is presented.

Exosomes derived from tumor cells possess biological significance and can mediate intercellular communication in the tumor microenvironment. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) is also implicated in the stability in tumorigenesis and the development of PCa, but the underlying mechanism remains elusive.

Predictive Model for Systemic Infection After Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy and Related Factors Analysis.

To investigate the factors associated with systemic infection after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and establish a predictive model to provide theoretical basis for the prevention of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and urosepsis correlate to percutaneous nephrostomy. Patients received PCNL between January 2016 and December 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. All patients were categorized into groups according to postoperative SIRS and urosepsis status.

However, the relationship between EPCs and bronchiectasis is unknown.

Methods: The medical records of 9 juxtaglomerular cell tumor patients treated in our hospital from 1997 to 2017 were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) are implicated in cancer initiation and metastasis, sometimes by releasing exosomes that mediate cell communication by delivering microRNAs (miRNAs). This study aimed to investigate the physiological mechanisms by which exosomal miR-205 derived from hBMSCs may modulate the growth of prostate cancer cells.

Methods: Microarray-based gene expression profiling of prostate cancer was adopted to identify differentially expressed genes and regulatory miRNAs, which identified the candidates RHPN2 and miR-205 as the study focus.

Localized giant solitary fibrous tumor of the scrotum: a rare case report and literature review.

Background: A solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a fibroblastic mesenchymal tumor initially thought to originate from the pleura but that may arise at almost any anatomic site. It is mostly benign, and surgical resection is usually the best treatment option. An SFT involving the scrotum is extremely rare.

Impact of AIB1 expression on the prognosis of upper tract urothelial carcinoma after radical nephroureterectomy.

Background: Amplified in breast cancer 1 (AIB1) is a candidate oncogene in human breast cancer, which has been identified to be amplified and overexpressed in several types of other human cancers. Abnormalities of AIB1 and its clinical/prognostic significance, however, in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) remain unclear.

Objective: To explore what role AIB1 plays in upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

A Comparison of Different Prophylactic Intravesical Chemotherapy Regimens for Bladder Cancer Recurrence After Nephroureterectomy for Primary Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinomas: A Retrospective 2-center Study.

Prophylactic intravesical chemotherapy can decrease bladder cancer recurrence rate after nephroureterectomy for upper tract urothelial carcinoma. We aimed to compare the effect of different prophylactic intravesical chemotherapy regimens in bladder recurrence-free survival. From 2000 to 2016, a total of 270 patients treated with radical nephroureterectomy at both institutions were enrolled.

Vasculogenic mimicry in bladder cancer and its association with the aberrant expression of ZEB1.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between vasculogenic mimicry (VM) and zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) in bladder cancer. VM structure and ZEB1 expression were analyzed by cluster of differentiation 34/periodic acid Schiff (PAS) double staining and immunohistochemical staining in 135 specimens from patients with bladder cancer, and a further 12 specimens from normal bladder tissues. Three-dimensional (3-D) culture was used to detect VM formation in the bladder transitional cancer cell lines UM-UC-3 and J82, and the immortalized human bladder epithelium cell line SV-HUC-1 .

Analysis of gene expression profile microarray data in complex regional pain syndrome.

The aim of the present study was to predict key genes and proteins associated with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) using bioinformatics analysis. The gene expression profiling microarray data, GSE47603, which included peripheral blood samples from 4 patients with CRPS and 5 healthy controls, was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CRPS patients compared with healthy controls were identified using the GEO2R online tool.

Benign mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus: A rare case report and review of literature.

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney (MESTK) is a rare renal tumor composed of epithelial and stromal cells. In this study, we report a rare case of MESTK, which was pathologically benign but complicated with renal vein and inferior vena cava tumor thrombus. The 50-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital for a mass on the left kidney.
