Although silver-coated endotracheal tubes have been shown to reduce the bacterial burden, the efficacy of silver-based ion additive ventilator circuits in reducing bacterial colonization remains unclear.
Methods: This single-site, randomized controlled trial compared the incidence of bacterial contamination between a silver-additive ventilator circuit and a ventilator circuit that did not have a silver additive.
: Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been demonstrated as an adjustable device to generate various combinations of short-lived reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) and as a promising appliance for cancer therapy. This study investigated the effects of direct and indirect treatments of Argon-based CAP to cancer cells (A2058, A549, U2OS and BCC) and fibroblasts (NIH3T3 and L929) on cell viability. We also aimed to understand whether plasma-generated RONS were involved in this process using genetic evidence.

Background And Aims: Different from other high cardiovascular (CV) risks populations, the evidence supporting the CV protective effect of LDL-C reduction with statins in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients is comparatively scarce. This study is aimed to investigate the role of maintaining lower LDL-C level in advanced CKD patients.
Methods: By using Chang Gung Research Database, on the basis of Taiwan's largest healthcare group, a total of 5367 adult patients newly-diagnosed with stage 4 CKD and receiving statin were extracted and further categorized into three groups based on their LDL-C levels: <70 mg/dL, 70-100 mg/dL, and ≥100 mg/dL.

Introduction: Hypertriglyceridemia is the most prevalent dyslipidemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, research about fibrate treatment in CKD patients is limited, and assessing its benefits becomes challenging due to the frequent concurrent use of statins. Thus, this study is aimed to investigate the role of fibrate in CKD stage 3 patients with hypertriglyceridemia who did not receive other lipid-lowering agents.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe role of fibrates in treating hypertriglyceridemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been insufficiently investigated. Since statin is considered the first-line treatment for dyslipidemia in CKD patients, this study aims to evaluate the role of concurrent fibrate therapy with statins among moderate CKD patients. We recruited CKD3 patients from the Chang Gung Research Database who were receiving statin treatment but had not previously been administered ezetimibe or niacin.
