Testicular cancer represents 1% of adult neoplasms and is the most common solid malignancy in young men. Of men presenting with seminoma, approximately 20% will have clinical stage (CS) II disease, characterized by enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes without further metastasis. A further group of men will present with CS I disease but later experience relapse in the retroperitoneal lymph nodes.

Pathology grading of prostate biopsy follows the rule that the highest International Society of Urological Pathology grade group (GG) is the GG assigned. This rule was developed in the systematic biopsy (SBx) era and makes sense when samples are from very different areas of the prostate. This rule has been kept for multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI)-targeted biopsy (MRI-TBx), for which multiple samples-targeted and systematic-are taken from small areas.

Purpose: We compare health-related quality of life using a broad range of validated measures in patients randomized to robotic-assisted radical cystectomy vs open radical cystectomy.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients that had enrolled in both a randomized controlled trial comparing robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy vs open radical cystectomy and a separate prospective study of health-related quality of life. The prospective health-related quality of life study collected 14 patient-reported outcomes measures preoperatively and at 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months postoperatively.

Article Synopsis
  • Radical cystectomy (RC) can significantly affect the quality of life (HRQOL) for patients, many of whom are or were smokers, influencing preoperative counseling.
  • Researchers analyzed data from a study that tracked HRQOL in RC patients over 2 years, using various measures to assess different aspects of their quality of life before and after the procedure.
  • The results showed that current smokers had worse overall quality of life and more pain post-surgery compared to former and never smokers, highlighting the need for tailored counseling for smoking patients regarding their recovery.

Background: Pathologic nodal invasion at prostatectomy is frequently associated with persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and with increased risk of disease recurrence. Management strategies for these patients are poorly defined. We aimed to explore the long-term oncologic outcomes and patterns of disease progression.

Objectives: To analyse the risk of uretero-enteric anastomotic stricture in patients randomised to open (ORC) or robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with extracorporeal urinary diversion.

Patients And Methods: We included 118 patients randomised to RARC (n = 60) or ORC (n = 58) at a single, high-volume institution from March 2010 to April 2013. Urinary diversion was performed by experienced open surgeons.
