Objective: Adolescents belong to the high-risk group of erosive tooth wear (ETW), but by contrast, they are reported to lack knowledge about this condition and its association with the intake of acidic beverages. This study aimed to survey the awareness of ETW and the consumption of beverages among a group of Finnish adolescents.
Material And Methods: A survey was conducted using an online questionnaire for the students in two upper comprehensive schools in the province of Southwest Finland.
Objective: To analyze changes in patients' temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) symptoms during orthodontic-surgical treatment and to investigate associations between symptoms, findings in temporomandibular joints (TMJs), satisfaction with occlusal function, psychological distress, and orthognathic quality of life (OQoL).
Subjects And Methods: Thirty-six consecutive female patients started orthodontic-surgical treatment, and 28 voluntary controls participated. Patients and controls filled in a semi-structured diary (regarding satisfaction and TMD symptoms) and the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ); patients also filled in the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90).
Our aim was to study whether the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) is reliable and valid for use in children aged 9 to 12 years. The study population was a convenient sample of Finnish comprehensive school pupils in the third and sixth grades (N = 57 and N = 69, respectively). Dental fear and anxiety (DFA) were measured with the Finnish validated adult version of MDAS, the modified Child Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS-M), and a single question.

Background: Studies have shown that elevated stress levels associate with TMD-related pain, which suggests that alterations in autonomic tone may contribute to this pain condition.
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the sex-specific associations between autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity and TMD pain-related diagnoses in a population-based study.
Methods: The study was part of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966.
We aimed to identify factors predicting toothbrushing less than twice daily at the age of 2 years. The data from the FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study of 506 mother-father pairs (with 506 children) were used. Logistic regression analyses were conducted of the outcome (brushing less than twice daily) at the age of 24 months.

Materials And Methods: The study was a retrospective histopathological re-evaluation analysis of 612 OEDs over 29 years at the Institute of Dentistry, University of Turku, Turku, Finland.
Objectives: The aim was to evaluate the association between public oral healthcare procedures and change in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) over 4 years among parents in the FinnBrain Cohort Study, comparing those who did not visit public oral healthcare.
Methods: The study used data on parents of young children from the FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study (www.finnbrain.
Objective: The objective of our study was to re-evaluate periapical lesions, including radicular cysts (RCs) and periapical granulomas (PGs) for locations, histopathological features, and degree of fibrosis in relation to the inflammatory response. In addition, we examined the presence of Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) and Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) since both are widely recognized pathogens in periodontal infections.
Methods: We re-evaluated samples of RCs and PGs (n = 728) and collected data for analyses by IBM's SPSS Statistics.
: We evaluated associations between changes in dental anxiety and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in parents of the FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study. : Two-year dental anxiety trajectories measured with Modified Dental Anxiety Scale from gestational weeks (gw) 14 and 34, and 3 and 24 months after birth were used. OHRQoL was measured with the Oral Health Impact Profile 14-item questionnaire at gw34 and 4 years.

Materials And Methods: A total of 31 BMS patients (43-82 years) and 20 age- and gender-matched volunteers (44-78 years) participated. The taste sensation for six tastants was measured using both the taste strips protocol and the whole-mouth evaluation method.

Objective: To identify mechanisms and types of injuries in patients having sustained craniofacial fractures under the influence of alcohol, and to compare the frequencies of them between males and females.
Materials And Methods: Patients included were adults who had been diagnosed with craniofacial fractures at Töölö Hospital Emergency Department, Helsinki University Hospital, Finland, and who had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of injury. The primary outcome variables were assault-related and fall-related injury mechanisms.
Objectives: The aim was to investigate the impact of smoking on pocket closure at 6 months after treatment of severe periodontitis, in relation to residual clinical inflammation.
Method And Materials: The clinical records of deep pockets (probing depth ≥ 6 mm, n = 984) in 46 individuals with periodontitis were analyzed. Following baseline clinical assessments (Plaque Index, probing depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing), nonsurgical periodontal treatment was performed.
Introduction: The Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD) is part of the undergraduate dental curriculum. Online teaching has nowadays become common also in dentistry.
Objective: To compare undergraduate students' self-assessed ability and satisfaction with learning DC/TMD Axis I between traditional and online learning and to evaluate the possible gains of online teaching.

Objectives: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the salivary glands has poor long-term prognosis and a high metastatic rate. Toll-like receptors (TLRs), first-line immune activators, have been associated with both tumor progression and suppression. We aimed to study TLR3 and TLR7 behavior in ACC.

Dental anxiety was measured with the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale at gestational weeks (gw) 14 and 34, as well as 3 and 24 months (mo) after childbirth. Oral healthcare procedures from gw14 to 24 mo were obtained from the national patient data register and categorized as preventive and treatment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the concordance of parents' assessments of their child's dental fear. Cross-sectional secondary analysis used data from the multidisciplinary FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study. Child dental fear was assessed at age 5 with the Finnish translation of the modified Children's Fear Survey Schedule Dental Subscale (CFSS-M) by both fathers (n = 588) and mothers (n = 1100).

The incidence of pediatric craniofacial fractures and heterogeneity of fractures is known to increase with age. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of associated injuries (AIs) to craniofacial fractures and identify differences in patterns of and predictors for AIs in children and teenagers. A 6-year retrospective cross-sectional cohort study was designed and implemented.

However, artifacts induced by dental restorations might complicate the diagnosis of CRS. Here, we assessed the frequency and location of artifacts in CBCT images taken to confirm the CRS.
