Intraoral Basal Cell Carcinoma: Controversies and Insights From a Systematic Review.

Background: The existence of intraoral basal cell carcinoma (IOBCC) remains controversial, despite reported cases in the literature.

Materials And Methods: A systematic search of four electronic databases and grey literature was conducted. Strict inclusion criteria were established to define a true case of IOBCC, including Ber-EP4 positivity to distinguish it from peripheral ameloblastoma and the absence of a history of skin lesions-either nearby, which could indicate direct infiltration, or at distant sites, which could suggest metastasis rather than a true primary IOBCC.

Assessment of Protein Immunoexpression Associated with Tumor Proliferation and Invasion in Histological Subtypes of Unicystic and Conventional Ameloblastoma.

The aim of this study was to verify whether the expression of proteins related to the formation of invadopodia, MT1-MMP, cortactin, Tks-4 and Tks-5 is associated with the degree of tumor invasiveness of different types of unicystic ameloblastomas. An immunohistochemical study was performed on 29 unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) samples, 9 conventional ameloblastoma (CAM) samples and 9 dental follicle (DF) samples. The potential for tumor invasiveness was assessed based on the immunoexpression of the following invadopodia-forming proteins: MT1-MMP, cortactin, Tks-4 and Tks5.

Gene expression and immunohistochemistry analysis of ADAMTS-1 and its substrates in odontogenic keratocyst.

Background: Considering the significant participation of the microenvironment in the local aggressiveness of odontogenic keratocysts, this study aims to evaluate the expression of ADAMTS-1 and its substrates, versican, aggrecan and brevican in this locally invasive odontogenic cyst.

Methods: Immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were conducted on 30 cases of odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) and 20 dental follicles (DFs).

Results: The immunohistochemical expression of these proteins was predominantly cytoplasmic and granular across all samples.

HIF-1 Is Associated with Resistance to Hypoxia-Induced Apoptosis in Ameloblastoma.

Background: Ameloblastoma (AMB) is a benign odontogenic tumour, with an aggressive local behaviour and a high rate of recurrence. Previous studies have demonstrated that hypoxia-induced factor alpha 1 (HIF-1) and activated caspase-3 contribute to tumour invasiveness and cytogenesis in ameloblastoma. Hypoxia increases HIF-1 levels, which triggers a number of signalling pathways.

Bilateral Sinonasal Inverted Papilloma: Report of an Uncommon Case Involving Sinuses of the Face and Orbital Cavity.

BACKGROUND Nasosinusal papilloma is a benign aggressive tumor. It usually occurs unilaterally in the nasal cavity and can extend to the sinuses. The diagnosis is made by the correlation of findings observed in tomographic and histopathological exams.

Immunohistochemical analysis of ADAMTS-1, versican and pEGFR expressions in periapical granuloma and radicular cyst.

Background: ADAMTS expression can be associated with several inflammatory processes, and has been correlated with tumorigenesis of some neoplasms, but its participation in the development of periapical lesions has not been investigated. Therefore, our objective was to verify the expression of ADAMTS-1, versican and pEGFR in Periapical Granuloma (PG) and in the Radicular Cyst (RC) since they are the most common lesions of the periapex.

Methods: 25 samples of RC and 10 of PG were used.

Traumatic enucleation of the left globe after a road traffic accident - A case report of an uncommon occurrence in maxillofacial trauma.

Introduction: Serious injuries of the globe are uncommon in closed maxillofacial trauma, as the anatomical configuration of the orbit offers important protective mechanisms against external trauma. Thus, the objective of this work is to report a case of a rare traumatic enucleation of the globe resulting from maxillofacial blunt trauma.

Presentation Of Case: A 42-year-old man was hit by a car with a major complaint of facial pain.

A rare case of invasive sinonasal carcinosarcoma.

Introduction: Carcinosarcomas are rare malignant neoplasms formed by embryonic tissues (ectoderm and mesoderm) and present remarkably aggressive character with unfavourable prognosis. These lesions are rarely diagnosed in the sinonasal cavity and only a few cases are reported in the literature. This manuscript aimed to report a rare case of a large and aggressive sinonasal carcinosarcoma that involved the facial middle third and to discuss the proposed treatment.

Marsupialization before enucleation as a treatment strategy for a large calcifying odontogenic cyst: Case report.

Introduction: Odontogenic pathological lesions can generally be divided into cysts and tumors. Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is a non-aggressive odontogenic cyst, however, in a few occasions, COC can show excessive growth and destruction. This study describes an uncommon aggressive presentation of a large COC and discusses the treatment strategies used to achieve a favorable result.
