Agricultural expansion into tropical and subtropical forests threatens forest-dependent communities by disrupting their access to vital resources. We explored these impacts for over 400 Indigenous communities in the Argentine Dry Chaco, a deforestation hotspot due to agricultural expansion. Using participatory mapping, we estimated resource collection footprints for plants and animals, and integrated these with deforestation data mapped from satellite images to show that by 2021, communities had lost on average 21% of their forests.

This review explores the recent advancements in polymer-assisted delivery systems for antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and their potential in precision disease treatment. Synthetic polymers have shown significant promise in enhancing the delivery, stability, and therapeutic efficacy of ASOs by addressing key challenges such as cellular uptake, endosomal escape, and reducing cytotoxicity. The review highlights key studies from the past decade demonstrating how these polymers improve gene silencing efficiencies, particularly in cancer and neurodegenerative disease models.

The ABCG2 membrane transporter affects bioavailability and milk secretion of xenobiotics and natural compounds, including vitamins such as riboflavin. We aimed to characterize the in vitro and in vivo interaction of ABCG2 with lumichrome, the main photodegradation product of riboflavin, which has proven in vitro anti-cancer activity and a therapeutical role in antibacterial photodynamic therapy as an efficient photosensitizer. Using MDCK-II polarized cells overexpressing murine Abcg2 and human ABCG2 we found that lumichrome was efficiently transported by both variants.

Objectives: To validate the efficacy and safety of withholding antimicrobial therapy in a new cohort of children with cancer and febrile neutropenia (FN) having a demonstrated viral respiratory tract infection.

Methods: Prospective, multicenter, noninferiority, randomized study, approved by the ethical committee, in children presenting with FN at seven hospitals in Chile, evaluated at admission for diagnosis of bacterial and viral pathogens. Children who were positive for a respiratory virus, negative for a bacterial pathogen, and had a favourable evolution after 48-72 hours of antimicrobial therapy were randomized to either maintain or withhold antimicrobial therapy.
