Many cancer patients are diagnosed following an emergency hospital admission in the 30 days preceding their diagnosis ('emergency presentation') and these patients have worse outcomes. Despite multiple international studies, there is only sparse evidence on emergency diagnosis of cancer in France. We examined the frequency of emergency presentation and its association with survival in patients with breast, lung, colon, rectal and pancreatic cancer, using data from the Paris Region University Hospitals (Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, AP-HP).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFacial aging is a complex process manifesting as skin hyperpigmentation, textural irregularities, and a diminished elasticity, hydration, and evenness of tone. The escalating demand for minimally invasive aesthetic interventions has driven the development of advanced hydrogel-based injectable formulations. This clinical study assessed the safety and efficacy of Hydragel A1, an injectable hydrogel containing hyaluronic acid (HA), niacinamide, and tranexamic acid (TXA), designed to simultaneously address multiple facets of facial skin aging.

We aimed to evaluate the safety of PA for this indication in real-life settings.
Patients And Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for Hinchey III/IV diverticulitis at 43 French centers from 2010 to 2021 were included in this retrospective multicenter study.
Background: Minimally invasive spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy (MI-SPDP) provides superior outcomes compared with open surgery, with robotic techniques showing better short-term results than laparoscopic techniques, particularly in obese patients. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the surgical approach on postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) incidence in obese patients undergoing MI-SPDP.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of obese patients from 16 international centres compared robotic (R-SPDP) and laparoscopic (L-SPDP) approaches.
The extracellular matrix (ECM), primarily composed of collagen and elastin synthesized by dermal fibroblasts, is critical for mesenchymal tissue integrity. Fibroblast phenotypes vary significantly with the anatomical location and developmental stage. Fetal skin, particularly prior to 14 weeks of gestation, exhibits a simplified structure compared to adult skin, characterized by a thin, loose dermal matrix and a single-layered epithelium.

Background: Studies evaluating the impact of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical status (ASA-PS) score on outcomes after liver resection (LR) are currently lacking. The aim was to evaluate the value of ASA-PS score on perioperative outcomes for laparoscopic liver resection (LLR).
Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent LLR from 1996 to 2018 at 29 French medical centers.

Skin aging is a complex and multifactorial process influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The periorbital area of the face is particularly susceptible to premature aging signs due to its delicate skin structure, and is a major concern for many individuals. While hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal filler products are commonly used for periorbital rejuvenation, novel approaches to effectively locally address the visible signs of aging are available.

Background: Conversion occurs in 15-30% of minimally invasive left pancreatectomies (MILP). Risk factors and potential negative impacts on postoperative outcomes are poorly described.

Polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRNs) and polynucleotides (PNs) are similar DNA-derived biopolymers that have garnered significant scientific attention since the 1990s for their potential applications in wound healing and skin rejuvenation. These biopolymers exhibit a broad molecular weight (MW) range, typically spanning from 50 to 1500 kDa. However, recent studies have expanded this range to encompass fragments as small as 1 kDa and as large as 10,000 kDa.

The human skin is a remarkable organ capable of extensive regeneration, especially after severe injuries such as burns and related wounds. The de-epidermized dermis (DED) model has become a valuable in vitro tool for skin regeneration studies, particularly for testing the mechanism of action and the efficacy of clinical cutaneous cell therapies. To further improve the quality and robustness of these applications, our study focused on optimizing and standardizing DED tissue preparation and storage, enhancing its effectiveness for clinical testing.

Increasing pathogen resistance rates to traditional antibiotics and antifungals are driving the development and registration of novel chemical entities. Although they are notably useful for animal testing reduction, the gold standard in vitro cytotoxicity assays in continuous cell lines (HaCaT keratinocytes, 3T3 fibroblasts) may be discussed from a translational relevance standpoint.

Biological products are emerging as therapeutic management options for intervertebral disc (IVD) degenerative affections and lower back pain. Autologous and allogeneic cell therapy protocols have been clinically implemented for IVD repair. Therein, several manufacturing process design considerations were shown to significantly influence clinical outcomes.

Cryopreservation ensures off-the-freezer availability of living cells, enabling long-term storage and transport. Customizing cryopreservation techniques and cryoprotective agents (CPAs) for specific cell types is crucial for cell source quality, sustainability, safety, and therapeutic intervention efficiency.

Background: Multiligament reconstruction (MLR) has become the standard surgical approach for treating multiligament knee injuries (MLKIs).
Purpose: To identify prognostic factors for patient-reported outcome measures, return to work (RTW), return to sports, and radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) (Kellgren-Lawrence grade ≥2) after MLR for MLKI.

Background: Current guidelines do not indicate any comprehensive management of hepatic hypervascular incidentalomas (HVIs) discovered in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients during intra-arterial therapies (IATs). This study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of HVIs detected on per-interventional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) during IAT for HCC in patients waiting for liver transplantation (LT).
Material And Methods: In this retrospective single-institutional study, all liver-transplanted HCC patients between January 2014 and December 2018 who received transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) or radioembolization (TARE) before LT were included.
Background: Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) is recommended as a downstaging (DS) strategy for solitary unresectable HCC <8 cm. The aim of this study was to report the results of acquired experience in a tertiary center for all unresectable HCCs.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational study using data collected from consecutive patients undergoing SIRT between October 2013 and June 2020.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels are commonly used for facial dermal filling and for alternative medical aesthetic purposes. High diversity exists in commercial formulations, notably for the optimization of finished product stability, functionality, and performance. Polyvalent ingredients such as calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) or vitamin B3 (niacinamide) are notably used as bio-stimulants to improve skin quality attributes at the administration site.

Method: This is a retrospective study based on a national cohort of diverticulitis surgery patients carried out by the Association Française de Chirurgie. The assessment was performed using path analyses.
Background: Although minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy (MIDP) is considered a standard approach it still presents a non-negligible rate of conversion to open that is mainly related to some difficulty factors, as obesity. The aim of this study is to analyze the preoperative factors associated with conversion in obese patients with MIDP.
Methods: In this multicenter study, all obese patients who underwent MIDP at 18 international expert centers were included.
